What's this for?

Whilst trying to find out why my side lights aren't working, I have just checked in the footwell and found this lead that I am sure should be connected to something, Any ideas? The ecu to laptop connector is higher up in the dash so am sure it's not for that, this one has holes for 2 pins whereas the ecu to laptop has holes for 4 pins.

In looking for the ecu connector to a laptop, I also dug this 2 pin jobbie out.
I PM'd Graham Varley for initial advice on finding the proper connector, and mentioned that I'd found the 2-pin as your 'photo.
Upshot is that whilst it does go back to the ecu, it doesn't have any practical use now.
