Help! Reverse light and MOT

The cars booked in for an MOT tomorrow and the reverse light isn't working. The brake lights are fine, so it can't be the fuse. I've put a DMM over the connector at the light and I'm getting nothing. My guess is the switch or it's connector. Where do I find them? I'm guessing above the gearbox somewhere.

The switch is under the centre console near the gear selector but as stated is not an MOT check

Mine isnt working either, and it went through the MOT fine. I think you need to take the leather cover off your gear lever and make sure that the reverse light switch is where it is supposed to be - or so I have been told. Its on my to do list...

It's on my to do list as well. Apparently the gearstick needs twisting round and the grub screw tightening so the striker hits the switch,when put in reverse. Looks fairly straightforward...time will tell!

Thats another job for the ever growing list then.

Fairly easy job to do - - remove centre console (multipin connector lets all the electrics go). Remove gear knob and handbrake cover. Then lift off carpeted insert to expose rubber gaiter. 4 off self tappers and a tie wrap hold gaiter down. When this is lifted off, the gear stick is exposed. Put into 3rd gear and undo 4mm allen grub screw.
The trick now is to rotate the chunky collar at the base of the stick (with the 'striker' attached) so that the striker hits the ball of the reverse light switch..... without having the reverse light coming on in 4th gear :-).

You can see what I did!! If you remove the stick extension, then make sure it is fully seated befor re-assembly - - else you'll have the reverse light 'on' whilst in 5th gear!!

As the Haynes manual says - 'assembly is the reverse of removal'.

Paul from PPC had the job of fixing my reversing light, only to find there was never any wiring attached to the loom from the start, fixed now, better than new

You gotta love the build quality on these cars and I do!
