Cold cranking from 11.5 volts. I suspect its a low voltage issue. My Tam struggles to fire with a battery below 11.9V and if it dose I get all sorts of wierdness on the dash.

hmmmm....still not starting, but I'm sure I've started it even at 9.5V....
It's on an accumate so 11.5V seems to be the most it's kept at.
So do I have to access the battery and give it a full charge with a charger?
cheers

Battery sounds kippered to me, I see almost 13v when on my CTek charger (I looked earlier). At 9.5 volts I don't even get a sweep of the dials or through the door if its flat as a witches tit.

Hi,

It's definitely a low battery. The startermotor cranks it for a short while and then de voltage drops further. That's causing the starter relay to disengage. By disengaging the voltage rises causing the relay to engage again. Voltage drops again and the same cycle happens again and again. Thats the quick clicking noise.
Mine doesn't start with 11,5 volts. I've seen lower readings but that's when it is cranking and no problem.

It's possible to charge the battery through the anderson connectors. Easier then accessing the batt itself.
I put a normal charger at the anderson connector with crocodile-clamps which works easy. Front side off the connector is +.

If this happened with your accumate connected during the standstill you may need a new battery.

Good luck
Ronald

cheers!

The Anderson connector, if you have one is connected to the battery and should run under the passenger side outrigger under the door.

The battery needed is Type 096R Varta Blue Dynamic 12V 74Ah.

•Short Code: E12
•Varta DIN: 574 013 068
•Dimensions: 278 x 175 x 190

Apologies for piggy-backing this thread, but would appreciate some additional advice.

My Tuscan did not have enough battery power to start the car close to Christmas after some 2.5 weeks unused. After connecting up an Accumate conditioner via the Anderson connector, I was hopeful this would solve the issue. Unfortunately, after 2 days of the Accumate showing yellow/green lights indicating it was at least attempting to charge the battery, it then reverted to the dreaded red light indicating the battery was potentially defunct/deep sulphated. It remained this way over the festive period whenever I tried to unplug/reconnect it. In short, the battery looked dead, with no power anywhere in the car and no ability to get in.

After succeeding yesterday in getting into the car via the "secret" method, I then attempted a jump start. Although the battery appeared to take a charge, certainly enough for me to get in via the doors, for the lights to operate, for the alarm to come on etc, there is absolutely no life whatsoever in the car when I attempt to start it. I have turned off the immobilser so it is not this - but I am now perplexed. There is no sound of anything turning over, not even the fuel pump, but the dash does show a red battery light? To add to my head scratching, when I disconnected the jump leads, the battery still showed 12.5v + and still allowed the lights to remain on and with a strong beam. I have reconnected the Accumate and it now shows a yellow light - but really don't know what the issue could now be? Thoughts are a dodgy fuse, perhaps a starter motor issue?

Any thoughts therefore appreciated?

Tried firing mine up on Saturday for the first time in over a month, forgot to put the trickle charger on! Anyway there was some life but not enough. Put on the charger for several hours and tried starting sand still not enough juice.

Left the charger on overnight and also put on a fan heater and following morning absolutely fine, off for a spin for 50 miles and back to normal. Warm tyres too which was good unlike the normal stone tyres you get after prolonged standing.

Reckon warmth is a good thing to release lubricants stiffening up working parts, bit like a squaddie sleeping with his rifle in a sleeping bag!

I should close by saying u were all right!
Having hooked up the charger and giving the baterry a good charging it started fine.
I noticed the battery in there is only a 60a...
Will see how it lasts now and get a new one if needed eventually.
And bought an Anderson connector coz it was a pain the arse to take the whell off etc...
cheers

Baz, Have you tried resetting the immobiliser by removing and refitting the 100amp fuse?

I got the AA to jump start mine before Christmas, took it out for a run and has been fine every since.

The number of volts isnt as important as the resistance in the battery, it might be showing 13v but not have the amps to turn the engine over.

Fired mine up last week after a month, hasnt been on charge and started first time smile

Thanks for the input chaps - some useful suggestions. Took a look at the Accumate today and it was suddenly showing a green light smile Filled with optimism, I lept in the car - to still be met with a dead nothingness upon turning the key. Pod is showing a battery charge of 13.2v, but aside from a red battery light on the Pod display and a weezy sounding fuel pump, there is no reaction upon trying to start her up. And after only two attempts at turning the key, the Accumate then showed a yellow symbol indicating the battery had already lost charge!

New battery needed shortly methinks....
