Heater/Aircon ECU

Where exactly is it? I don't want to remove all the carpet from the passengers foot well to find it. Also how big is it? I don't really know what I am looking for.

I want to check the connections as my fan seems to switch itself on and off.

Underneath the passenger dash near corner of windscreen black block as big as your hand.

Can't find the sodding thing! Despite 30 mins of upside-down contorions with a torch.

Having a bad day at doing jobs, failed to do the heatsink too!

You have to pull the carpet away to expose the heater ECU, mine is located on the side wall opposite the gearbox tunnel rather than being tucked under the dash, will try and take a picture tomorrow evening when I get in from work.

Nick . Did you find it? I am doing the same job. However once I got it out it was apparent that the usual pin had burnt out. So I sent it to Electrovesal Ltd who have done a very quick turnaround refurb for circa £50 inc P&P. They did not manage to replace the burnt pin which had also snapped so they have wired in a separate wire which I hope to be able to pass through the connector block. This was the cheaper option than to either buy another one nor get one from the breakers.

I haven't found it yet, I was reluctant to remove carpets and I ran out of time and patience. I will probably try again this weekend if I can get rid of the outlaws!

Nick. Mine is on a W plate and it was stuck with velcro onto the back of the front parcel shelf on the passenger side. If yours is an early Mk1 too, i dont think there is enough room behind the carpet. Mine is also in a cooling fin style box rather than a smooth one.

Mine is a November 2000 car. I spent a while with my head in the passenger footwell looking up and couldnt see anything. I will look again. My problem is a short attention span and what my other half calls "man looking". So I will only see it if it jumps out and says "woohoo"
