I wonder if anyone can help. I was given a Jago a while ago to recondition and get on the road. I was about to change the UJ's when I noticed that besides them being staked in the prop was knackered.

Is the prop a standard Escort Mk1 or 2? Does it need to be modified? And finally for either case where is the best place to get one?

Hope you can help so I can get my new baby MOT'd and on the road!!

Rob (new Jago fan)

Hi
The propshaft is not a standard car unit it is fabricated from scratch.
The easiest thing to do is measure from the rear of the gearbox to the front of the back axle flange (where the propshaft goes). Then unless you have altered either the gearbox type or rear axle flange take the old shaft to a propshaft maker (we have GKN just up the road from us who do all our shafts) and ask them to make a new one to suit the measurement you have taken with the same type of flange and coupling as per the old shaft.

Best wishes

Hi All
Thought this might help. It dates from June 2000 when I installed a 5speed box in my 1700 crossflow jeep. I found D&F very helpful.
Cheers
Ian

Text of FAX to Dunning & Fairbank Ltd Re: Prop Shaft Supply
Dear Sirs
Following our recent telephone conversation, please supply a prop shaft to fit my Jago Jeep which has a Ford Sierra (Type 9) 5speed gearbox and a Ford Escort Mk.2 back axle fitted.
The distance from the gearbox oil seal to the diff flange is 748mm and the flange is 107mm in diameter with threaded holes on 90mm centres.
Your telephone quotation was for £85, presumably plus VAT and p&p. Please charge to my VISA card (details deleted!!!)and deliver to the above address.
Yours faithfully,
Ian R Archer

Cheers both for that info. I will now try and get that sorted.

I'll feed back once the job is done.

Thanks again,

Rob
