Ford Pop.......sit up and beg
1968 I bought it (oh God, here he goes) for £49 and it was immaculate....3 speed, vacuum wipers, pull start, headlight switch that had the ignition key in the middle so when you turn the light switch, you often turned the engine off.....starter handle for those flat battery moments.....bloody hell, kids of today have got it made, they don't know when they'ra well off.....

unfortunatly my 1st car was a 1988 E-reg fiat uno 1.1 60Super S, was imported from spain by the guy i bought it from! had a bodykit on it made it look like a little ferrari! and yes......it was "red"
i spent a hugh amount of cash on it and i shouldnt have done! had everythin by the time i was finished with it! everythin from leather seats to a damn tv and dvd player mounted in the dash! i then moved onto better things.......i blew the engine and swapped it for an old diesel escort van.........and the proccess went on.......

A 1961 Anglia 105E Standard Saloon. I lowered the rear suspension and added some gauges, switches, full harness belts, flip-front and a variety of louder exhausts. It ended its mechanical life as my first jeep as we were allowed to call them back then. Alas, NLH41P no longer exists... It was yellow as well.

The 105E Anglia was one of THE cars to own in those days......when I was living up in Reading there were a few of us that had them...the 105E was the third car on the list of cars I've owned. Didn't drive around Reading in those days Ian? There was a yellow one with a broad white strip down the middle, and a very tasty met. blue one as well.
Whilst I'm on here and no one needs to know about Jago's at the mo....a few years on, more custom stuff filled my life, and it was those days I found out about the Jago kits. Also along the coast in a westerly direction from Geoff's place at Christchurch was a guy called Ray Christopher who was selling kits of the American Plymouth 5 Window Coupe and the gorgeous little C-Cab. Ray also had an old ex milk float, heavily customised and a mid mounted V8 hidden by milk crates! Ray told me about the time he was on the fast lane of a motorway and flashed his lights at a Jag driver to move out of the way.....he said the look on the Jag driver's face was priceless as he was being overtaken by a milfloat!

I remember that milk float from a couple of appearances at the Donny Custom show way back when and boy could it shift , not sure if it was Ray or someone else but a couple of years later there was a Honda Acty (Sooty) pick up with a Ford V6 mid-mounted..............the list of iconic custom cars is endless remember Henry Hi-Rise , the Street Machine Cresta and Rover P5 , that amazing gull-wing CF van Revenge C cab etc etc .......whre are they all now?

There was a roofchopped mark 1 Consul "leadsled" which belonged to a Richard? King? which had a scalop paint job , that went the way of the banger track a few years back.

not Reading- Hounslow and Harrow. I remember Henry Hi-Rise as well.

Just before I ordered my jeep (as we could call them then) I went down to Quarry Lane (in my TVR Grantura Mk2) one weekend for a look round. The "security guard" was a guy who was living with a pet sheep (!) in a chop-top Commer van with a mid-mounted 3.3 litre straight six Vauxhall engine.

At one time my wife was driving a 1600 OHC HB Viva with lowered front suspension on 12" wheels with FD Victor 13" wheels on the back and a Starsky & Hutch paint job. The pupils at her school loved it. Happy days.

Memories dear memories
Renault 4, must have been about a 66, 3 speed and lift off doors, prior to the Jago the most fun vehicle I ever owned - when the car could not go on the road any more I drove it on a local farm for ages, never did manage to tip it over but the engine went out with a hell of a bang!
