alas i think i have a bit of a problem, there appears to be no kitcar culture over here whatsoever and am finding it impossible to keep my jago on the road. The english MOT is almost up and the spanish equivalent is an ITV, but to do this i have to get it reregistered but the spanish do not recognise it, so even with a valid V5 it is impossible to get another years ticket, the only option i have is to drive it back to the uk and get it done, ...... unless anyone has any other suggestions

cheers

Tricky one Robbie but heres what I managed to glean from a Spanish Emigration website:

" Registering your vehicle in Spain is more complicated, but if you plan to keep your car here you are obliged by the law to do so. This process (matriculación) begins with ensuring the vehicle is roadworthy and complies with Spanish regulations. To do this, assuming the vehicle was first registered in the EU, you will need to take it to an ITV centre. This is the Spanish equivalent of the UK MoT. They will inspect the vehicle and certify all of its characteristics. You will then need to pay a registration tax levied by your local council (impuesto municipal sobre circulacion de vehiculos).

The amount of the tax is 12% of the value of the vehicle. The value of the vehicle is determined in function of its cost price and its age. If your vehicle is over a year old, it's value will 80% of cost, after 4 years 50%, and after 10 years 20%.

You will then need to present your ITV certificate, a receipt for the tax, the original registration document, a photocopy of your DNI and pay a levy of 64€

If the vehicle is commercial, agricultural, new, non-standard or is from outside the EU, then other taxes and conditions apply "

Whether the fact that its a kit car is causing a problem I don't know - another factor could be its V5, i.e- is it correctly registered as a Jago? or are the Spaniards thinking that its no El Escorte?

I wish you the best of luck though, and living near Manchester I envy the amount of top down driving weather you must get over there!
