1600 xflow engine jago geep,HELP!!!!!!
Discussion
Hi
Welcome to the world of Jago's I guess you bought the camo coloured one off Ebay ? if so I would stick with the 1600 , with a 5 speed box fitted the 1300 (which is the only direct replacement) may not pull very well in 5th when you hit the brick wall effect created by the flat screen which happens around 50-55 mph.The 1600 is the prefered upgrade for all 1300's as the improved power output will have negligible effect on fuel economy in such a light vehicle , if you downgrade you may also encounter problems with the gearbox ratios not being suitable.
Sourcing/fitting a good 1300 engine will absorb the first years tax saving , then there is the issue of getting the DVLA to correct the V5 to show the lower tax rating before you get any financial benefits , obviously depending on your age insurance can be an issue , however for those of us who are ,shall I say , more mature you are looking at less than £100 a year F/C for 3000 miles.
If it was me I would stick with what you have , if the engine still fitted is the "tuned" one originally built for that particular vehicle (it used to belong to one of our club members)then for the sheer fun factor leave it where it is.
Why not check out the Club site at www.jagoownersclub.co.uk , there you will find details of the club, membership and a lively discussion forum which should help you with any further questions you may have.
Cheers
Mark

that camo jeep Q LEG, as you will have seen on the other site I know it well, my first jeep!
though when I sold her she was four speed with a low ratio back axle, I would hope to be able to answer any questions you may have and even supply some history if you would like it!
Welcome to our world

hi dave,i went to pick up the geep in aberystwyth on thursday but when i got there unfortunatly the geep was in a bit of a state and had to pass buying it!!!a long and expensive trip costing £160!!!there was a water leak, oil leaks, repairs done to the floor, and electrics playing up!!i would have to spend too much getting it rite.nice looking though,i was realy looking for a 1300 0r 1400,so im on the lookout preferably a white one,if you know of anyone, cheeeers arther
So sorry to hear about the state of the jeep. I sold her with a new MOT and a newly repaired and strengthened floor, which was done prior to MOT. The engine in her was like new, and very very powerful, so it is probable that it was either badly neglected or perhaps not the origional?
I was told that she was stood in a field for quite a while, certainly she had been changed quite a bit from the condition I sold her in. Keep trying, the Guy selling LEG must have thought he was onto a good thing, but a good jeep will turn up, just be patient
Dave
ps to all, I offered the history to the seller - he did not want it either!

I wondered what happened to her? I sold that jeep when I was done rebuilding the yellow peril!
She was a tired looking maroon then, the Gelcoat was so oxidised it was not possible to get a shine on her that lasted more than a few days!
The history - she was built by a Guy in Ely, Cambridge who was an absolute perfectionist. The engine is a 1600 x-flow (with a difference) built by the police workshops in Oxford as a project, when I owned her she had a kent stage 2 cam and a mini dizzi, even with the low ratio back axle fitted she was capable of well in excess of 80 (I never pushed her much past that, the brakes were not modified and she was a pig to stop) Note the hole drilled in the rear step of the bonnet, improved air flow?? the jeep was used to COMMUTE in and out of London!
At the time of selling her I had replaced the rotted out floor with a sandwich of ali plate and marine ply.
What made her so special for me was the quality of build - the guy who built her used his lathe to make stainless fastenings for everything that showed. When she was sold she had a stepped hard top, in which was a metal plate in the center, this was fitted to take a flashing light - she had earned her keep as a tow vehicle for a local garage. I had never removed the hard top, the jeep was fitted with an approved imobilisor and alarm, the sensors were all fitted properly including movement sensors in the roof space! which was where the radio was fitted, so I left well alone (not being very good with wiring)
Her first MOT is from 1989, the registration mark is shown as "JK 557885 Re Registered as Q889 LEG"
I still have all the origional paperwork and receipts including the receipt and some info on the donor vehicle. She should in fact be registered as historic, but due to the total honesty of the builder he never attempted to retain the donor registration. The person I sold her to did not want to wait for me to find the paperwork out for him and the last I heard of her she was parked up in a field outside Wedmore, Somerset.
Good luck with the sale, but I dont think you will get any takers at £1000.
A ps for all those still thinking about fitting rear seats!
note the member between the roll bars at the level of the tail gate, the back rest of the mini clubman back seat was fixed to the crossbar and the upper seat belt mounts are easily seen in the picture

Not the faintest what you are trying to insinuate - I offered you the documented history of your jeep (which I would have expected P&P for), and yes I did offer to buy the Jeep!
Your paste above is a copy of what I posted on www.jagoownersclub.co.uk NOT AN EMAIL
Your Ebay sale is totally bogus, if the faults reported by another member are indeed present then the ebay listing must list those faults.
Failure to do that is nothing short of Fraud!
You also state that you "know nothing of these things" and that you are selling for a Mate - That being the case I can only presume you know nothing about Rods either (I dont), but your supplied links on the other site suggest otherwise!
Any kit club would be better off without you - kit owners are enthusiasts not rip off merchants!
Crow bars at dawn? come on down
If you do find anyone to buy the Jeep, they are welcome to its history

Not getting into a pissing contest here. I'm just putting my side on.
I received an E Mail from you through E Bay saying
No mention of it being free or any offer of it being sent for just P&P.
The faults mention by the OP are subjective, his idea of an 'Oil Leak' may be a small job to someone else. Did you see it yourself ?
No yet you take his word.
If it was that bad why is it being now offered with a 12 month MOT on date of purchase.
As the OP said it was/is being sold through a garage on behalf of the owner, BORG who posts on the Jago group only listed the auction and has nothing to do with the sale. He forwards any E Mails onto the seller.
It is a KIT CAR as you said, and anyone would go and look at it first. BEFORE buying it, but seeing as an agreement was made over the phone with the OP that if it was not what he wanted then he would not have to pay. Which is what happened. No negative feedback has or will be given against him. It was HIS choice to use BUY IT NOW before inspection.
