It's OK but nothing special, TBH.

The original Smart was groovy.
The sportscar smart was also groovy.
The for4 is ... well.. not groovy

I think it's taking a departure from what smart really are about...

Its another small 4 seater town car (based on a mitsu). Not bad for it but not in any way shape or form 'smart'.

It's not as practical and more expensive than the other car based on the same platform the Mitsubishi Colt.

It is bought by people who prefer Style over function.

At least the two seater smarts were offering something new.

Reuse at an epic scale.

Brilliant idea brilliantly executed.

Sure its not much to look at but as a concept I think its fantastic.

VW must be kicking themselves for turning down Smart.

Over-all they arent a bad car really. I had one for 4 days, and it seemed okay, but i couldnt really get a comfortable driving position, and steering felt quite heavy, oh and the ESP decided to switch itself off while going along on the motorway, and the only way to switch it back on is to switch the ignition off, then back on again.

Other than that, the chassis is very grippy, and it seemed to smooth out the lumps and bumps in the road quite well, and the gearbox is really good too, very smooth and fast to change.

The pick-up seemed a bit lacking too, and at 3000rpm the engine sounded as though it was screaming (the red line is at 6000rpm!) it really didnt seem quick/nippy at all, and as for boot space, there is next to none unless you slide the seats forward abit. i could only really compare the boot-space with something like a new mini. As for getting in the back, it cna be a real struggle due to the size of the door, and the was the top back edge of the door is shaped.

In terms of design, from the outside its really quite elegant, the bodywork is shaped as apposed to them fitting colour-keyed stripes to add shape. The interior is quite nicely designed too, and everything seems to be at the drivers finger-tips, and the visibility is fantastic too with plenty of glass all around you, although there is quite a big blind spot where the C pillar is. the glass roof is really nice too, it makes the interior feel much bigger.

Its a complete departure from the city-cars and the roadster, but its a really nice car, i just dont think i would pay how much the dealer want for it!
