It's started. http://news.independent.co.uk/uk/transport/story.jsp?story=548821

Get out your tape measures and if any are illegal complain, use this example..

I mean £25,000 to install road humps!!!!! And they do nothing to repair potholes, cracks or subsidance.

Brian Coleman, the former environmental chief at Barnet council who started ripping out all speed humps in the borough, said: "If Camden spent all the tens of thousands of pounds they waste on road-widening, traffic-calming and other unnecessary anti-motorist measures on resurfacing the roads it would be far more efficient.

Well said sir

I used to live in West Hampstead and it's a nightmare. If you're not being ticketed or clamped the traffic calming it ripping the crap out of your car - there's one really bad one on canfield gardens where the road is a good 30 cm lower on the exit (one way section) and i used to have to crawl down the side of that to avoid rearranging the front of my FD.

Nice to see they've finally been forced to sort it out.

Shouldn't we question any system that enables the retention of fools that have the power to put in place such traffic irritation measures while neglecting road maintenence?

How do such fools get into power and how do they hold onto their jobs?

Is wasting money and inhibiting the movement of vehicular traffic part of the job description?

Because most of the right minded and dare I say intelligent people are too busy or apathetic to stand for local council posts.
Until we act rathar than moan about it we are powerless to stop the incompetent from ruling our lives.
Why do the incompetent rule? Because they are inadequate and need to feel in control.

I heard on the local radio yesterday that bus drivers in Reading are to go on strike for back injuries caused by the constant jarring of the speed humps on their routes around Reading.

The roads are dangerous, there are RTAs, injuries and deaths. So it totaly beggars belief that the crass idiots go out and make them more dangerous with humps across the road, choke points and artificial chicanes. Here in Warwickshire the moronic council has put many artificial chicanes in villages and they are causing lots of accidents as people drive straight on over the high kerbs, especially at night. There is no doubt that they are causing vastly more accidents than they could ever prevent.

Don't you get it? The reason they are doing this is so that they can introduce a "safety" speed camera. To reduce the levels back to those before they put in the traffic calming....this would be funny if it wasn't true!

I wonder why the figure of 100mm height has arisen. My understanding is that any speed hump which impeeds/prevents access to a motor vehicle is illegal. I do not remember anything about heights. To put a height limit on these humps suggests that sports cars are being discriminated against!
