Sick pills prescribed for hit-and-run man
Texan judge adds to jury's sentence
A man who caused a fatal road rage crash was sentenced with two jail sentences and a string of restrictions designed to publicly humiliate him. The judge made the move after jurors decided only on probation.
State District Judge Keith Dean ordered Frank Dorsett to:
- Serve two 180-day terms in gaol
- Drive a car with no more than 130 hp
- Take daily medication that will make him sick if he drinks alcohol
- Put a bumper sticker on his vehicle asking other motorists to call the probation department if he's driving recklessly
- Carry a photo of the wreckage
Police said that in June last year Dorsett and another driver were chasing each other along Interstate 635 in pickups. The other vehicle's driver, Jason T. Scott, lost control and collided with the vehicle of 16-year-old Rachel Blasingame, who was killed. Scott is still awaiting trial.
"We feel the terms of his probation will make up for anything the jury had taken away from us," said Rachel's father, Guy Blasingame, in Saturday editions of The Dallas Morning News.
Would this be a suitable punishment in the UK? You decide...

I would shake that judges hand!
enforcement is always an issue...but at least they're trying to do something.....
Hear Hear!!!
Back in wonderful GB we would offer to give them free councelling and a holiday away to deal with the stress of killing someone, while the family has to deal with the loss on their own.
Humiliate the f**kers as much as possible

Isn't it about time the powers that be recognise that we the silent majority have just about had enough - don't you all agree?
I had a car stolen, (an old Uren savage) the theives did £5600 worth of damge, one of the three had 70+ previous', and yes you guessed it, he got 50 hours community service to go with the hours he already had! So that Judge (magistrates) valued his hourly rate at £100 plus!
but well done to the
anyway good attempt at new thinkingMy daughter survived the wreck in the article and was left in critical condition. It was her best friend Rachel from our church who was killed, both girls were only 16. In the car the police and paramedics found thier bibles and the prom dress they shared and had just worn to thier proms.
I sat through the entire trial and I am still mystified by the jury giving him probation. His own coworker testified he had 6 beers after work while playing frisbe golf. Later that night he went to "The beer store" (a Texas term) and it was on his way back home he got into a road rage incident (not a race). where each tried to speed up and cut the other off. Mutual speeding turned into mutual bumping of their huge super cab pickup trucks until the other guy lost control. It was two little men in big trucks and both were equally responsible. Frank took off as soon as the accident happened, exited the next exit and forced cars off the road before he ran the red light and was almost hit by two other cars. Someone got his license number and he was arested and taken to the hospital where a blood alcohol test revealed a content of over .12. The legal limit is only .08.
The one thing that is wrong about the story that ran in the UK is that there was never any mention in or out of court, that the conditions imposed were intended to humiliate him. They were to protect the public.
