When did a 'think tank' ever contribute anything useful to society?

It drew all the together in one room so that only one bomb/machine gun was necessary to solve the problem!

"According to the World Health Organisation, vehicle emissions are responsible for tens of thousands of premature deaths in western Europe alone each year" - that statement is so vague and unfounded, but sadly it still gets printed to associate 10's of 1,000's of deaths with SUV's.

And the comparison of vehicle emissions is a ridiculous statement as well - no one compares a Range Rover with a 1.8 Saab on their shopping list. They might as well comparing a large county house with a studio flat to support a motion to give large house's health warnings because they sit on land that could be used to plant a tree! Without taking away someones freedom of choice you can't legislate against this.

On the other hand, put a health warming on the car, that would make me buy one even more.

Exactly. I never thought I'd want to own a 4x4 but am now seriously considering one. A nice 4.0l Jeep Cherokee should do it 10,000cc on the drive across 3 cars should get the lentil munching tree huggers going!

why should I be concerned about the safety of someone who has pulled out on me????? surely Darwin rules state survival of the fittest. If you are a numpty, and can't see my SUV, then maybe you shouldn't be driving??? FFS get them off the road. Numpties that is. And I offer to take any PH'er out for a jaunt in the Shogun so they can see the advantages.

Would be interested in your views on the Shogun, I'm currently thinking about getting one for my daughter. It seems only right and proper that a self respecting PistonHeader should get his daughter an un-PC car as her first mode of transport.

I would have written it like this:

Think Tanks 'should carry health warning'
By Postie
Think Tank hater

Think Tanks, those gatherings of unelected, do-gooding gobshites, commonly found sticking their oar in where it is not wanted, are so stress inducing and dangerous that they should carry a cigarette packet-style health warning.

That is the view of most rational human beings, who outline their arguments about the tanks - also known as Leftie Whingeing Tossers (LWTs) - to any sane person left on the planet who will listen.

"They're really just the spawn of Satan" Some bloke told BCB News.

"They spout such incredible volumes of hot air, that they make an entirely unnecessary contribution to one of the biggest environmental problems we face - global warming - and there's a huge and unacknowledged health crisis which results from the sheer anger they provoke in ordinary rational people."

According to the World Health Organization, think tanks are responsible for tens of thousands of premature deaths in western Europe alone each year.

The agency also ascribes around 150,000 deaths globally each year to climate change.

Because think tanks generally spout more crap than normal, rational people, they need bigger lungs, which tend to produce more carbon dioxide.

In the UK, for example, a Land Rover 4.4 V8 emits 389 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometre travelled, and Chrysler-Jeep's Grand Cherokee produces 370g/km travelled. The average think tank however produces 50 tons of carbon dioxide in a typical minute of crap spouting.

But motoring journalist Quinten Wollson said that in terms of environmental damage, SUVs were "at the bottom of the smoke chain".

"If you look at things like diesel buses, old Routemaster buses, diesel taxis, any diesel HGV, they kick out 10 times more toxins than the modern 4x4 with its anti-smog equipment and catalytic converters," he said.

Mr Bloggs says that environment and environmental health are just one part of the story - think tanks are also more dangerous than other forms of human, he says, including to those inside.

"They sell themselves as the saviours of humanity, intended to make everyday people feel guilty about owning or doing almost anything they get any pleasure out of, when in fact they're a greater danger to the health of the population themselves."

The World Health Organization estimates that 1.2 million people are killed by think tanks each year and as many as 50 million are injured. Projections indicate that these figures will increase by about 65% over the next 20 years, which would then make think tanks the third biggest cause of death globally.

According to a study by the some faceless US Institute there are many more deaths from the crap spouted by think tanks than from any other loathed group of people, including politicians.

"For all ill-informed crap spouted by groups of people quoted in the media, people subjected to the quotes and nonsense from think tanks are four times more likely to die than people listening to the inane ramblings of an averagely incompetent government minister," the report concludes.

"When think tanks come up with their prejudiced and ill-researched drivel, the risk of death by anger, stress or simply losing the will to live, compared to the risk of getting killed by a passing SUV is 27 to 1."

The question as to whether the idiots that make up a typical think tank are even residents of planet Earth is more difficult, though the US National Think Tank Safety Administration has found that think tank audiences have a far higher rate of death per year than think tank members.

Some think tanks are prone to spouting sensationalist garbage the administration found.

Quinten Wollson said Think Tanks were larger in the US than in Britain.

"Their Think Tanks are the size of our cities and they do ten times the damage and it's completely wrong," he said.

"But over here, I see lots of proof that they are both causing mass suicides and polluting on such a massive scale."

He added: "We don't like the blinkered politicians who listen to them, and we are going to have to legislate against them because of that!"

According to NERD, one in seven people born in London will join a think tank by the time they reach 30. In an era when global warming is said by some to be the biggest threat to the planet, NERD believes they fully warrant being labelled as hazardous.

"We're sitting here in a situation where it's become completely familiar that when we pick up a cigarette packet, we see a health warning.

"But 25 years ago we would have thought it very odd.

"We would like to see a situation where it becomes totally natural on think tanks."
