A recent article from The Scotsman, about the local authority that bleated poverty when asked to put more bobbies on the beat in Edinburgh town centre, but found the money to TRIPLE the number of parking wardens to 90;

THEY are already public enemy No1, but yesterday an Edinburgh traffic warden did nothing to enhance his profession’s tarnished reputation by issuing a parking fine to a motorist who had walked 20 yards away from her car to purchase a ticket from a machine.
Judith Whitelaw, a secretary, initially thought she was the victim of a practical joke when she noticed a parking warden slapping a penalty notice on her car while she was buying a ticket from a pay-and-display dispenser.
But she discovered the mean-minded warden was deadly serious after he refused to take back the £30 fine. Although the meter ticket clearly showed she bought it before the penalty notice was issued, the pouncing warden refused to back down telling her: "That’s your tough luck."
Now Miss Whitelaw, 36, who was on her way to an exam when the incident took place, says she will fight, "tooth and nail" to clear her name. "It’s bad enough getting a ticket when you are illegally parked but to get one while you are buying a pay-and-display ticket is outrageous.
"What made it even worse was that when I explained the situation to the parking warden he just laughed.
"His attitude was terrible. He couldn’t have cared less and told me there was nothing I could do about it. It was very upsetting and the fact that it happened on my way to an exam really didn’t help."
The incident happened in St Andrew’s Square, just off Princes Street in Edinburgh’s city centre.
Miss Whitelaw’s pay and display ticket had the time 17:34 marked on it while the parking fine states that it was issued at 17:36.
As she protested, two other parking wardens joined them and began taking photos of her car. "I asked them why they were taking pictures but they just laughed and said they could take pictures if they wanted to," Ms Whitelaw said.
"Their manner was disgraceful. They refused to explain why the pictures were necessary and treated the whole thing like a big joke. I will certainly not pay the fine as I have done nothing wrong."
A spokeswoman for Edinburgh City Council said it was standard practice for photographs to be taken of cars when they are illegally parked.
"The parking attendant claims that when he arrived at the car he checked the machines and saw no-one there before issuing the ticket."
They call them The Blue Meanies - most know them as The Parking Nazis.

Had one of these scum try to ticket me after a dim blonde telephoning englishwoman (driving a numptymobil no less) shunted me. Was exchanging details and waiting for BiB. Told him simply I'd break his arm if he touched my vehicle in any way and he **cked off rather sharpish! Being an unpleasant barsteward is obviously a prerogative to getting employed by Edinbugh Council for this job.........
NB in George Street so it could be the same blue slime who was in the news story!!!

The traffic wardens in Edinburgh are indeed complete C U Next Tuesdays. Was staying at a mates flat in City Centre for a couple of weeks whilst mine was being done up and parking car outside in controlled zone, i.e you could park there from 7 in evening to 8.30 in morning. Was off work at time so every morning I would get up at 8.15 and drive car half mile down road to unrestricted area before walking back, which was pretty inconvenient. (also no reason for area being restircted, as it was a huge parking bay type space which no one ever drove in).
However, slept in one morning and at 8.31 looked out window to see car being towed away to pound. This was also teh time on the ticket when I went to pick up the car from the pound at a cost of £116. Told the council to feck off regarding the £30 parking ticket, but never had any joy with the separate private firm who ran the pick up service.

Parking attendants in Norfolk are lovely.
One even came over and told me that not to park where l was (as l was about to walk off) because it was pay and display not permit parking and he would have to ticket me. We then had a friendly chat about stealing cars and off l went.
Maybe the problem is that your wardens are Scottish....

I once parked in a cash and flash car park, walked to the machine to get a ticket, walked back and an attendant was writing a ticket out for me! I asked him to stop, explained that I had just parked and he said 'I cant cancel the ticket and you now need to go to the council offices to complain!'. I went a little mad and so he radioed for the police!
This is a bit old now, but, in Oct last year (2001), I had the unfortunant situation where I parked in Finsbury Circus (City of London).
The vehicle was the office car, (this has a bearing on what happened). I bought the required pay & display ticket, affixed said ticket to the inside of windscreen. The ticket displayed had the correct date and time clearly displayed, and had a two hour limit. The car was parked within designated white lines, etc, etc, in other words nothing was against any parking regulation.
I went round the corner for a coffee (people with me went for a meeting in an adjacent building). Came back to the car after 20 mins, e.g. 1hr 35 mins left on the ticket.
Yep! a parking ticket on the windscreen.
Attendant was across the road inspecting other cars. So, of course I went to 'talk nicely' to him. Invited him to inspect the car again, which he actually did. He admitted that the ticket was in place, legal etc. But, as with other entries on this thread, said he could not do anything about it, I had to appeal. His other answer about 'why did you issue me with a ticket' met with, well I didn't see the pay & display ticket on the windscreen. What???
Anyway, I wrote the appeal letter, (I went on leave two weeks after the parking ticket weas issued). Copied all the relevent documents, e.g. copies of pay & display ticket, stated what the attendant had said etc. etc. The reply was that the case would be presented to the appeal 'person', the fine was 40:00 now, or 80:00 after two weeks. Even if the appeal wasn't decided upon in the mean time.
I asked office manager NOT to pay the fine. Well I had a perfect case didn't I.
What happens, the 'red' final demand was sent while I was on leave, and the finance office paid it without checking. 80:00, OK its not my money but b****y *ell.
