What's the car? Here are the ones I've tried:
Nokian Hakkapeliitta 4 on a Subaru Impreza (4wd) - rather good, especially on packed snow/ice but noisy. Seemed to last quite well.
Goodyear Ultragrip 500 on Honda Civic (2wd) - Good on packed snow/ice, less effective in deeper snow/slush, seem to lose studs rather easily (but maybe that's my fault
)
Continental Winter Viking 1 on a Honda CRV (part time 4wd) - not so noisy, seem to be lasting well, acceptable in most conditions. But the CRV is quite a bouncy vehicle anyway, it's a little harder to tell what the tyres are up to.
All with studs, because I live in the middle of nowhere... never had friction tyres! But since I'm quite new to this winter tyre stuff it's probably best to listen to the experts - you can see the Tuulilasi winter tyre test on their website:

Hey thanks for the info. How long did you have those Nokias???? I've heard too that they can be noisy but if you put that a side, they are good. I think my dad bought Bridgestones ones to their car and the tyres we really awful, cant remember the model now. It was a private joke than when the snowplough car drives ahead, our car follows up even to the rest areas like a pup.
