The BBC - Lib-Lab PR machine?
Discussion
Checking out a minor news item this AM and happened upon this little gem on the BBC's teletext news index:
apparently, Jim Davidson - he of (whether you like him or not) over 25 years' televisual comedic prescence - has been voted Britain's unfunniest comedian.
Fair enough.
Or is it?
The poll was apparently carried out by that great benefactor to our inglorious PM, Virgin Radio, which alledgedly quizzed 5,000 of it's 'right on' listeners.
What irritated me though was the manner of the BBC's report. The story described Davidson as, amongst other things, 'Tory Favourite.' Eh?
Other, less than politically correct 'funny men' luminaries (I use the term in it's broadest context, I stress) included Brian Connelly, Michael Barrymore and the incomparable deity himself, Bernhard Manning.
What p1sses me off immensely here is the blatant but sledgehammer crude, politico-brainwashing job being attempted by the commie scumbags at the Beeb in the name of simple comedy. In other words, another great British institution being mindlessly hijacked by the Guardianistas who impose the fascist straightjacket of political correction on us all.
The FACT that all four of these chaps have enjoyed/ currently enjoy massive POPULAR support amongst everyday folk appears to have passed by the tw*ts who commissioned the publication of this ridiculous survey.
It does seem though, that any form of potential right wing thought, whether overtly political or just innocent comedy, delivered via traditional forms, if deemed racist or sexist or whatever the hell else by the dogs who are screwing our very nationhood, is there to be targetted.
From the ranks of liberal fopps or labour hypocrites I could understand this: but the BBC is SUPPOSED to be neutral.
I do not approve.
P.S. For the record, Bernard Manning is genuinely hilarious, a multi-millionare philanthropist who has trod the stages of Vegas with the big guns. I kid you not, this guy takes the p1ss out of everybody and what he hates - which is preceisely why he goes at it so aggressively - is the censorship of, in his case, 'free humour.' Only puffs from Millbank think Bernard's a racist but that perception is utterly convenient. Swear to God, the guy is one of the nicest blokes you could meet; he just suffers from that now illegal British condition, common sense.
Richard Wilson? Not fit to mix Bernard's drinks!

Todays Sun carries the same story

I suppose when you have 'real' comedians like Blair, Prescott and crew in the media focus, it's little wonder that Virgin Radio listeners consider Jim et al to be unfunny. Obviously, many voted twice as Virgin Radio doesn't have as many as 5000 listeners.

Another spot-on post, Derestrictor - I like the cut of your giblets...
Let's not forget, though, that in spite of this 'righty bashing', Jim Davidson has previously been invited personally to perform by the all too right-on Prince of Wales.. And if that endorsement isn't a finger in the eye of these PC scum, I don't know what is...
Wonder if he still talks about Chalky

But after all that they are still crap commedians.
Maybe but the funny thing is, seeing comedians 'live' is always different to the sanitisation of the filtering process known as TV...
I've always found BM bloody hilarious under any circumstances and we had a Christmas works do a while back which involved a coach trip to his 'world famous' Embassy Club. I couldn't stop a rather lurid display of ale spraying caused by the rather unseemly inability of myself to contain said imbibing fluid due to the funniest barage of abuse (some of it aimed as us lot) I had ever/have ever been exposed to.
The guy IS the fastest wit in the west which is no mean feat when you consider his vintage!
(Steve Coogan was another one: no big fan ordinarily but saw him live at some coroprate do three years ago and I was literally crying with laughter.)
The fact that the BBC seems to take its line direct from Millbank press statements has stopped me watching the bloody news nowdays
.
I seem to remember a certain chancellor in the 30's that exercised the same level control over his national press, look where that went
Surely someone somewhere is capable of keeping the Beeb in check? (No I didn't think so either)
It's a very sad indictment of our country when the widely respected Beeb is no more than a voice peace for these 'idiots' (word chosen carefully as it hits the right spot when describing the likes of Prescott et al).
Come the revolution
Harry

Ok sportsfans can we get back 'on message' please?
IS the BBC a communicative vessel for the left?
I say YES!
What about everybody else?
YES
The sooner it (the beeb) understands that it is the public and not the bloody government of the day it is suppose to serve the better it'll be for everyone.
How do you stop them being a mouth piece though? thats what I want to know?
Same as the poll tax I suppose, withhold the fee, surely they can't put everyone in jail
H
So we've got the BBC which is partial to lefty leadership and revenue cameras that nobody likes (due to poor location and spin) - both of which generate income and can lead to court.
Hmmm, so if everyone who got a photo-booth ticket also refused to pay the TV tax, how much trouble could we cause the courts and how quickly could we shut the system down??

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong - but he's a member of the conservative party and appears regular at their conferences and meetings. So he's a 'Tory Favourite'.

Eh?!?!? FFS.
They were just reporting the story like the Sun did. The poll was carried out by the Virgin Radio Breakfast Show which has nothing whatsoever to do with the BBC (indeed it is their competitor).
Hmmn not sure about this one on the whole. I reckon Aunty is the content delivery method of choice for the current government. Given that new labia is old tory surely the beeb are just giving the current governments cock eyed view of the world? If dem libs get in perhaps the beeb will slant perhaps?
This comic story though smacks of something fundamentally more torrid. The club comics of old, manning, davison, brown, jethro et al all have a knuckle factor, they tell gags that prescribe a response. Given the fact that everyone now has a voice its no longer a case of 'if you dont like it, dont listen to it' but more a case of 'I dont like it, you cant listen to it' I am almost convinced the mealy mouthed pinko thinking like this is almost de riguer in some circles and the media bollocks thats inherent in the beeb perpetuates this to the sheep like masses.
Free thought is certaintly not something the beeb promotes but thats a different story and probably not worth going into here!
Matt.

Anyone read "Bias: A CBS Insider Exposes How the Media Distort the News" by Bernard Goldberg?
Might hold a few clues to this whole media lefty-liberal-fest business..
it's on my Amazon wishlist for when I've got thru the pile of gubbins I'm reading at the moment.

Hmm, another interesting thread...
Initially, I felt that people were judging and treating the BBC a little too harshly. For sure, the Beeb leans to the Left a this moment, but I don't know whether this may be a reflection on society as a whole. If it's felt that the Beeb being Left influences society to be the same, then that's maybe a little different.
IMO the BBC is by far and away the best broadcaster in this country, politically or otherwise (I can hear the sh1t hitting the fan!). Whether this would be different if all broadcasters were funded in the same way will remain unknown, but its very much of the old question, is it art influencing life, or life influencing art. A bit of both, perhaps.

same subject ... article today in the daily telegraph on this very issue - basically saying that the BBC has manipulated the news/politics level so that it attacks any individual that is outspoken - eg ann widdecombe or Mo Mowlem - even michael portillo - but any centre ground politician gets media time for there 'balanced' views and reasonableness ...etc
Ie they are making politics boring because no-one speaks the up for marginal opinions any more

I stopped watching Eastenders many years ago as I am convinced it's storyline is controlled by the Government. Mark Fowler must hold the record for living the longest whilst being HIV. Expect they have probably had something about the MMR vaccine recently - but wouldn't know. This programme should have a health warning on it - may cause brainwashing.
Big M - soaps have always been a form of brainwashing (ahem - pun not intended...
)..
It's beyond even my conspiratorial gaze to surmise that the Government writes/controls the plot for Eastenders..
After all, Eastenders has been depressing and shit for a lot longer than Tony Boy has been in the hotseat..
