Mazda MX-5 debuts at NY auto show

Launch edition includes extra shiny bits

Mazda will reveal the new MX-5 Limited Edition at the 2005 New York International Automobile Show, which opens on Friday.

The car's interior and exterior feature glossy chrome-silver parts, 17-inch aluminium alloy wheels, with a newly-developed silver finish, a 2.0-litre MZR engine and a six-speed manual transmission. Each will also carry a badge stating the sequential production number.

The show model in New York has a Velocity Red Mica exterior -- exclusive to the limited edition -- matched with crimson leather seats. Additional colours will be available.

The launch edition's production run will be 3,500 units for global markets, and Mazda's PR blurb reckons that sales are being synchronised with the start of sales for the all-new MX-5 roadster.

Had a look at the site, I think I'm looking at my next car purchase!!! Not really keen on the rear light clusters but otherwise I think it's a great update to the original classic. Well done Mazda!

I think the car looks awesome, but i agree about the rear lights.

I can see a wierd turnaround with MX5Parts.co.uk selling 'Non-lexus style' rear light clusters for the Mk.3 Roadster.....

I'm getting tempted by one too after owning a mk1 and 2, if they make a hard top/coupe I WILL be interested.

I think it looks great but why do we have to wait until November ?? Hardly a great time to launch a roadster in the UK !! My company car lease runs out at the end of July and I would have got one of these for sure now it looks as if I will have to go elsewhere
