A different kind of Windows for your car ?
Discussion
This is really, almost, a true account of a Microsoft / Ford venture..
Michigan, US of A, Friday. Evil Microsoft chief, Bill Gates and the Ford Motor Company, today outlined a future in which software enables cars to fix themselves and avoid accidents. Gates and Bill Ford, Ford's chairman and chief hanger on, said 'high-definition screens, speech recognition technology, cameras, digital calendars and navigation equipment with directions and road conditions, will set car companies apart from their competitors'. "That absolutely should be the goal," Gates told us somewhat unconvincingly. Quite what all this technology will add to the base cost of a Ford is anybodies guess, but it should be safe to assume it will be a fairly expensive option, possibly in the region of what leather seats and air con would add to a Focus today. Also, the thought of a granny, who hits the loud pedal instead of the stop one, having to tap in CTRL-ALT-DELETE before having to telephone a call centre in Delhi just to be told to restart the vehicle is not expected to be much of a purchase incentive.
