woohoo now americans can waste even more fuel....

on the flip side it means the cat has a chance to warm up before proper driving begins thus improving air quality anywhere outside your garage.
Would be handy for TVRs too as the all important warm up could be partially completed as you eat your breakfast leading to less engine wear as you drive to work.

Just buy a clifford concept 600 or avant guarde - they come with intellistart off the keyfob, and you also get a top-class insurance cat 1 alarm/immobiliser too!

Yup, pretty sure you're right on that one. Certainly I recall reading in a newspaper (OK not necessarily true) that someone was done for leaving a car running outside a chippy.

You've been able to do this with the Clifford alarm on automatic cars for about 10 years!

I've heard of the clifford systems but was told you MUST have an automatic gearbox equipped car. Anyone know for sure? Also if this was fitted to a new audi would my warranty / insurance be shafted as it's modified?

Clifford will fit it to a manual car, but you have to sign all sorts of waivers etc...

(A staff writer on Max Power had one fitted to her 106)

What about those delay boxes that run the engine for 30secs to 5 minutes to allow the turbo to cool down and not coke up.

had one of these systems on a hire car a couple of years ago, A/C could be left on, start your engine inside the pub so its nice and cool when you enter the vehicle.

BMW got there first.

My 530D is equiped with remote controlled in car heating.

Press the special remote up to 300m away from the car (preferably whist you are still in bed) and a diesel powered heater heats both the interior of the car and the engine.

For not much more than the cost of electrically heated seats you get a real benefit - and a chance to frighten the Postman.

Really looking forward to the first proper cold day.

I've been looking into this of late, now that the nights are drawing in and Jack Frost is beginning to nibble at my sprouts (or something).

On cold mornings I start my car then lock it with the spare keys, leave the crooklock on and let it warm up for about 10 mins, this may seem wasteful but not only is the car nice and toasty, the temp. guage is approaching normal and that has to be better than the car being driven from cold and just approaching proper operating temperature before being switched off again.

I'd go for the Clifford option but it'd cost c.£700 and for a manual transmission there is a fiddly pre-shut down sequence to follow.
