Really? I can't believe that this will not be appealed and quashed.

That's utterly insane.

Even the fact that they took it to court having paid his fine the morning after receipt of notice is baffling.

Could it be a typo by the court?

"The DVLA said on Wednesday that its officials had spotted the unusually high fine and flagged it as being outside the maximum allowable penalty."

should have been £397.69? biglaugh
