Radio 2 news today; apparently the RAC has advised the government to increase tax on higher polluting cars; thanks very much RAC, thought you were supposed to be on our side?
What is it with these people, I thought they were supposed to represent the motorist, not encourage more tax dressed up as 'environmental' , when even the tax that motorist pay already is chronically under spent on the road system.
Remember when your renewal comes, or you get asked in the services if you want to join.

(Im not involved in any service competing with the RAC in case youre wondering)

I'll stay with them Cause there service is good.
I don't have a problem with what they have said, it will probably only efect new cars and may encourage car manuafcturuereres to put some more effort into economy?

Anyway, the goverment would never listen to any one anyway!!

I think you've missed the point, you are paying an organisation that is acting against your best interests by suggesting an extra tax on you, its not just for new cars!!
INMHO the RAC is biting the hand that feeds ie the paying motorist, who is already taxed heavily, and only 4billion or so from the 40 odd billion raised from road users is actually spent on the roads system.
I can understand you being happy with their service, but there are plenty of other providers, and staying with them is a bit like staying with your partner because they cook you nice meals, but ignoring that they're doing your best mate while youre at work!!!!
Only my opinion, but I think the RAC have let us all down here.

I agree with dingocooke. If there are 30m motorists that is one hell of a captive market: car sales, servicing, insurance, warranties, breakdown insurance, petrol, tyres, etc..

What is need is a large group of motoring friendly companies (perhaps under the same brand name) and less of the RAC/AA types.

But If we don't have high poluting cars we have nothing to wory about, If you do there's a good chance you can afford it any way!

That doesn't hold water. My favourite set of wheels is 18 years old and would probably be considered a high polluter due to the lack of a cat etc. However that doesn't mean I'm well off and can easily afford any additional taxes that the government may care to throw at us motorists.

I think that's the RAC Foundation isn't it? Bizarrely it now has nothing to do with the RAC!
