Charge Me Up
It's a new year, let's be positive
Discussion
Remember folks, busses don't have to pay the CC, and a bus is classified as anything with 9 or more seats (even if only 1 is occupied), so if you want to drive into Central London without having to pay, either buy yourself a minibus, or a Land Rover 110. It'll work in 2 ways. Ken won't get any cash, and each person will take up more room on the roads, so the CC will fail, as congestion will get worse.
Maybe we should organise a campaign.

Congestion charging is another example of the growing evidence that local/regional government have completely forgotten that they are there to serve the taxpayers. They think that they are there to rule - and to show that they are doing their jobs they slap taxes, fines and restrictions on the honest, law-abiding people who are easy to target and too busy or scared to stand up to what has become a bullying and mindless method of government.
Futhermore the bureaucratic infrastructure being built up to enforce this scheme is nigh-on stalinist in its approach and the powers it will assume. It will be another part of our burgeoning public sector employed to chase the easy targets while swathes of our inner-cities are plagued by crime and poverty that no one wants to tackle - sick or what?

I don't have a problem with CC in principle: there's no escaping the fact that there are too many cars for this tiny island's roads to cope with, especially in the south east, and even more especially in and around London. The price principle as a rationing mechanism has a lot to be said for it and I can't envisage another/better way of reducing congestion in London. In theory.
The problem with CC in London is that public transport is a disaster -- overcrowded, dirty, unreliable and horrendously expensive. As an alternative to the car, it doesn't work.
Even if KL's promises are fulfilled, how long is all that going to take before it starts to make a difference? Five years at least, I reckon. In the meantime, what are those who need to be in the city supposed to do?
Personally, on the odd occasion when I need to be there I go in by overground train and walk to central London meetings from Victoria or cab it. I won't use the tube unless I really have to -- even the bus is preferable.
Having said that, how much do I care? I moved out, among other reasons, because public transport is overcrowded, dirty, unreliable and horrendously expensive...

Whilst there are lots of traffic jams and congestion evident on the roads, i'm not sure its a case of too many cars, but a lot to do with driving habits. Typically motorways get congested at accident spots as people slow to 'have a look', at junctions with adjoining motorways, and most often imho when drivers drive too close too fast and the infamous brake wave is created.
Drivers are supposed to keep left, but in this country you'd be forgiven for thinking motorway driving is keep right as the outside lane is always the first to clog up.Again to do with middle-lane hoggers and HGV grand prix's in the middle lane.
Many a time i have progressed by keeping left, and overtaking on the inside of the queues in the second and third lanes. Is this wrong? I don't think so, simply because if there is the capacity to overtake a car on the inside, then why isn't the car in that position anyway. Too many inconsiderate and bad habit drivers in this country not utilising the avaialbel highway as it is intended. Not necessarily too little traffic capacity.

Stop,.......Stop for one minute! this is a msg to every motorist.
Lets all pay the £5'er for one day, the money we bank estimated at around £250'000 we're invest in hiring a hitman and remove the thorn in our sides, the balance will be put into making F**KING cyclists pay road tax and people who generaly dispise the motorist disappear.
Happy New Year!

This one has a lot of potential...
You know what...I Hate Labour!
Why i hear you ask...
Well since smug git Tony Blair and his rugger chums got into power this country has somewhat gone down the drain. Now i am not going to be all politcal and stuff or talkabout the boring nature of this subject, but if Labour didn't get into power KL would not of been here and the CC thing would of never exsited!
Because of this i now refuse to drive into London everyday as i don't want smug git and he bum chums to get my £5 that i would of have to pay everyday. So i now catch a train into London, by having to use $hitty Connex (but thats another story...Wan*er$)
which is crap as we are crammed into a metal tube that stinks...the only good thing about this is when the summer comes, fit blonde birds that were sod all have to stand real close to you (not being a perv or anything but it does make a blokes day :-) )
Anyhow...Crappy Connex Train into London, and then i am forced to catch a bus from London Brige to my place of work. Now i am not being funny or anything as i can put up with most $hit, but these buses are smelly slow, the drivers are driving on another planet, and there are bloody weirdo sitting next to you. Now how can KL say that he is going to or is going to improve these services. Oh and sod catching the tube. This is also another smelly dirty overcrowded service that is worse than the buses. oh well at least i got this off my chest for now! thanks guys ;-)
