New fuel saving scheme hits town
Marmalade club offers up to 6p off a litre
There's a new fuel-saving card in town, following the early headway made in this area by PHer Ben Scammell and his Pipeline card (see link below).
According to the creators of the Maramalade Car Club card, people can save of up to 6p per litre on fuel by buying one of the three £3.99 fuel cards it has on offer (Total, Texaco or BP) from Marmalade.
Every Sunday the fuel card price is posted on the web and this price is then fixed for the next seven days, giving the member the choice to use the fuel card to fill up their car or pay the pump price with cash or credit card.
Savings depend upon location and local conditions but these can be as much as 6p per litre on trunk roads and motorway services, according to the club.
The fuel cards work on a week by week basis and the cost of the weekly fuel bill is charged by direct debit allowing up to 17 days' credit.
Benefits
- Savings of up to 6p per litre
- Simplicity
- Fuel costs are known in advance
- No minimum volumes
- Cards available for all family members
- Detailed usage bills
The Marmalade fuel card scheme is open to members and the cost is £3.99 annually per primary account with additional cards are charged at £0.75. As a membership organisation, the club said it has access to over 160,000 members but, for any non-members looking to join, it has incorporated the cost of a primary fuel card within the annual Marmalade membership fee of £9.99.
Other benefits include discounts on tyres, airport parking, Channel crossings and others in similar vein.

Their price of 94.9 is 2p a litre cheaeper than the cheapest in my town (Tescos).
30 miles away in Milton Keynes though it's 3p a litre more expensive. Guess it'll depend on where you are in the country.
Doesn't matter if BP, Texaco etc are generally more expensive, you need to compare their price against that of all your retailers, it's just that their card can only be used at certain stations by the looks of it.
I thought the target was 15p+ a litre, but looking at it this bloody savagely greedy Govenment takes such a massise cut that there probably isn't 15p in a litre of fuel to start with.
Ho-Humm Diesel anyone?
Try Oz, Optimax Extreme [5% ethanol 100 octane] is $AU 1.49 per litre - Optimax 96 octane about 10 cents cheaper. Here we are demanding Johnny Howard reduce petrol taxes, but not getting much response yet. Last year Optimax was about 93 cents.

Hi Ray, good to see another new Aussie member.
Expect the standard replies to this post as they all do the dollar to pound conversion and say we're lucky, "that is only 60p/litre". What they forget is that we don't have pounds!!
