Shelby Series 2
400bhp sports car from the man himself. But can he sell them to the Brits?
Discussion
wouldn't say it's fugly.........Fiat Multipla, Citroen C5?, now thats fugly, I think this beastie is suffering from an identity crisis, a bit Mustang, a bit Cobra, a bit retro but not enough, it seems to have a lot of the best bits from everything......all of which have been done before
As with a lot of cars that are featured on PistonHeads, the photographs don't do them justice and, just like recent TVRs, once they've been seen in 'real life', one can make more objective comments.
I visited the Shelby factory last February and saw a number of the cars. They're certainly not fugly but I've certainly seen a lot of sleeker looking American vehicles, such as the later Corvettes. As I said to the guy doing the tour, keep the body and chassis bits, just sell me an engine and box

the series 1 has never looked right, and in all the delays in getting it to market, nobody has so much as questioned whether it should be cleaned up. and the performance claims are ridiculous.0-60 in 3.2? qtr in 11.3? if that thing has only 450hp and 406 hp, it'll need to weigh dramatically less than it's been tipped to. Hell, the only car I can think of that is even close to those claims with that kind of power are an Ultima or a Mosler. Shelby is full of it, and he's close to ruined a kit car industry based on a car he has barely any right to. AC should be suing him.

OK i don't think its that FUGLY, i just wanted to use the word....FUGLY

You can tell it's supposed to be a development of the Daytona Cobra but it seems to have lost it in the proportions department. Alongside a Cerbera or a Tuscan it looks like a squashed hamburger. Maybe I'm being harsh, but if it's coming to Britain it'd better have the handling and top-end grunt that allows TVRs to dispatch our country lanes. Like the Dodge Viper, It's not that fast, or that pretty. Unlike the Viper, though, it's bloody expensive compared to the home-grown competition. Mabe Caroll Shelby would gain more kudos if he went back to tuning Mustangs, especially the forthcoming one. He lost the Cobra (back) to AC and the replica market years ago.

- they could have employed a stylist surely, very dumpy and ill proportioned
