VX220 Prices Announced

It's looking like a very good buy!

Vauxhall has announced prices for its new VX220 Turbo. Pitching in at under £26K, the Turbo will take Vauxhall into a performance sector that it's not ventured into for some years.

The 200bhp engine will sling the VX220 Turbo to 60 mph in under 5 seconds; 0 to 100 mph in under 13 seconds and on to a top speed of 151 mph.

The Lotus developed chassis has also had further development to harness the extra engine power over the 2.2 litre 16v.

Some subtle exterior design changes give indications to the extra performance of the turbo model, while the interior of the new version is now plusher, upgraded through the use of higher quality materials and a revised list of options.

On the road price for the VX220 Turbo, when it goes on sale on 24 March, is £25,495.

How much is the Turbo Technics conversion for the S2 Elise?

Considerably more?

Matt.

About £4K I think.

This is the sort of value that the TVR S was in its day...

Supercharged Elises are between 5k and 9k.

5k = 190bhp.
9k = 230bhp.

Dunno how the handling is vs the Elise etc, you might want to add suspension upgrades to that price too.

Of course its also a supercharger vs a turbo so less lag. Bloody competitive car this though, unless Lotus make similar money on each VX they sell to the Elise, this all seems a bit silly on their part.

I'm guessing but I'd say Vauxhall are'nt making much cash on these but rather trying to make in impression on the sports car market. There are way too many VX220 Std's sitting about on airfields and forecourts to be able to justify a 28-30k price.

VX220 should have been the 18k car the elise was originally and it would have made a lot more friends...

As i live in Sweden cars like this are not really a year round proposition , thats why i sold the XKR cab it was just too much cash sitting in the garage all winter not getting used , this really seems like a credible alternative for what i need, an R32 golf as the workhorse and one of these as a Toy ,, and i have never seen one on the road over here .

I think this may change that now that they have given the car some quite serious performance

The 190bhp/215bhp(for the 111S) conversions are £5700 + VAT, then take into account the spend on a new exhaust + manifold, up grading your brakes and possibly suspension and your're looking at £8500 (thats without the suspension) a revised cam + remapping at £1300+VAT takes a 190bhp conv to 230bhp. I've got 225bhp thereabouts good for 4.5 to 60mph, high 11's/low 12's for the 100mph.

In other words the pricing and performance makes the VX220T an absolute bargain.

Look forward to reading about the test drive from Mr Bell.

Wonder if the brakes have better pads. Be fairly surprised if they did. Here are the offical TT prices :

TT190 & TT215 SUPERSPORTS £5750.00 + Vat
TT230 SUPERSPORTS £7350.00 + Vat
TT260 SUPERSPORTS £9290.00 - £9995.00 + Vat

ouch.

Still the Vauxhall Halo is actually screwing up the VX200, rather than boosting their other models. Who wants to buy a car associated with Griff Rhyjones in stained underpants...

I'd rather wait until Lotus come up with something new than go for the VX or the TT conversion (which isn't really economic for most people).

I was thinking about the VX220 earlier and if I wasn't quite so bothered about the handling issues that have been highlighted in a few reviews and the annoying driver aids I'd probably buy an Opel Speedster.

This is exactly the reason why this won't be a market competitor to the Elise. Who the hell wants to drive a bloody Vauxhall?! You'd get zero respect from any car enthusiast. Perhaps your mum would be impressed, but not yer mates.

Vauxhall, it takes more than one funky little car to change your entire range's image. Sack your marketing drones and try to get some credibility back! Griff Rhys Jones in Y-fronts! Fc*k off!

The biggest problem will be residuals with the VX220.

If you plan on keeping it 10 years OK, but it may be expensive if you only keep it a few.

Just my thoughts (and I expect to be proved wrong...)

Personally I think it quite an achievement that the only really bad things people can say about the VX is its badge.

The potential for modifying this car is also excellent. Simply chip and exhaust could get up to 270bhp for £1k.

There are major issues with the VX220T - regarding handling and turbo lag - would not want to be passenger in one with a mediocre driver at the wheel which lets face it most Vauxhall drivers are

Thanks for that and I thought I was just plain crap, but it turns out I better than that, I'm mediocre

Harry

PS I aspire to be average

PPS I'll tell you this if you keep it to yourself, the VX Omegod is not a bad motor it just has shite residuals, but here comes the good bit, they're a steal 1-2 years old, don't forget....schhhhhh

PPPS By the same token these motors will probably be an even greater buy in a year or two, then they will be the bargin they should be now
