Koenigsegg Factory Burned Out

Fifteen cars saved as Swedish Supercar maker suffers major blaze

There was panic in Sweden on Saturday as the Koenigsegg supercar factory went up in flames.

Fire crews were called to the factory Margerethetorp 2:20 in the afternoon after reports of flames coming from one of the buildings.

Fire spread to other buildings and staff and local villages frantically moved partly built cars our of the path of the fire, while fire crews from five cities doused the flames.

Thanks to the efforts of those involved, a number of cars were saved in various states of completion and many of the manufacturing tools and components were saved. Some of the cars suffered broken windows as staff smashed their way in to move them.

No one was injured in the blaze and new production facilities have already been found at the abandoned Swedish Airforce F10 in Angelholm. Christian Koenigsegg hopes that manufacture can begin again next week.

Thanks to Carl Puur for this story.

Not good, very very not good.
Something like this could bankrupt a small company. Hope they bounce back.
Good to see they've already got another place set up and hope to be back into it so soon.
Also good to see that the locals pitched in to help save some cars. Good on em!

"Production is expected to resume sometime next week." That's why I like the idea of small automotive companies; imagine what would have happened if GM's LaGrange locomotive plant had burned! The world would quite literally stop turning over the next few weeks!

MacLaren must be really worried about the competition.

...Imagine the news item...

The Uk Government is urging the Sweedish Government to take this opportunity to stop building these fast, dangerous, unsafe, pedestrian killing, child pornography cars which wreck lives.

Instead, the UK are encouraging them to make nice, safe slow cars which in no way will harm anyone, animal of human.

These new cars will be fitted with a special engine which will not allow it to be driven above 30 mph, regardless of road....

I'm only joking, but someohow I feel its only a matter of time...

On the other hand in times like these small companies like this tend to bancrupt themselves...

...they've already found new premises, mmm.

Wonder if they were moving anyway and having trouble flogging the old factory.

Fires: Dangerous, but sometimes convienient.

Reminds me about the time when Browns Lane burned down and took all but sixteen XKSS's with it. But when they rebuilt it they unleashed the E-Type, so there is hope yet.

Chirac says they are very childish cars and make far too much noise. Gerhard Schroeder says he is sticking by his election commitments to never ever drive one ever.

Don't be so cynical man. It's more likely that these new premises will actually take an age to get into full production and they're just putting a positive spin on it.

I have a friend who lives around the corner from the *old* factory - I will see if I can find out some more news.

Still a real shame though - it will be a real setback for what is *the* most promising new supercar....

This may seem as a set back, but I beleive everything that happens has reason behind it. I am glad to hear that no one got hurt. Keep up the good work and we sport car enthusiasts, look forward to seeing more of Koenigsegg in the near future.

PS - The Tank has nothing to do with anything, I just like it.
