Love the ad where the Italian' team release driver at pitstop and spin him round to dizzy him, only to watch him stuff the car on take off.
But seriously though, short of taking the wheels off Schu'es car and making sure that there can be no little used aggregate rule to declare him winner by default, what can they do?

Put sprinklers on half of the track.

Allow nupties to take the occasional short cut.

Make the circuits all figure of 8.

Put road works on the main straights, with "Merge In Turn" signs.

Make the drivers fill up and pay at a kiosk, I know a few attendants that would slow 'em down. And over sensitive pumps.

Zebra crossings.

Ban red cars.

Yeah and a nice "Dodge the gatso" area just off the the first corner to catch em as they speed up into the straights!
In a Murray Walker type voice: "And Schumacher comes out of the Senna curve, round the Parabolica for the final time, hes accelerating...oh..he's..he's been done by the Gatso! this is terrible!"

ban rear wings.
let em have ground effect again.
so cars can still corner while behind another car.
and make schumi race in a clown car with doors that blow off and a midget in the back with a squirty flower

And he would still likely win.... Plus that squirty flower has a lot of potential for nobbling the opposition :P

Minimum weight specified and a standard survival cell type centre area.
Finite sized fuel tank but no other restrictions on engine size type or fuel, no restrictions on transmision type, suspension etc.
Treaded all-weather type tyres.
No wings.
Maximum cost limit, Option for Donnington Museum to buy any car for that price as a way to deter sneeky overspending.

By the way, when does the traction control / launch control ban become effective? I was told it was after Silverstone, but I read elsewhere it was AT Silverstone. Anyone care to put me right?

robp, from what I was reading yesterday it is FROM Silverstone onwards.

I was pretty much against these rules but since RD&FW have launched a suit against MM&BE I suddenly find myself a supporter of these rules changes.

It smacked of taking the bat-and-ball home coz we can't have it our way

I still think they missed a great opportunity to get rid of wings altogether and go back to slicks

I am not convinced a lot of the changes are are good thing.
I dont think changing qualifying and limiting the number of engines per weekend is particulary clever.

By removing ALL electronical assistance (traction control, ABS, launch control, auto gears etc) will make a HUGE difference in my opinion.

It will be a lot more about drivers skill. More late breaking into corners, more skill in exiting corners, much improved starts. I think these changes alone will have a great inpact. Lets hope it does, and that those viewing figures start to climb up again.

Either way, its going to be an interesting season ahead

If its only about driver skill then put them all into Formula Fords, my view is that F1 should be the pinnacle with the best most advanced cars as well as the best drivers.

I enjoy Gurston Down Hillclimbs more than F1 other than F1 noise, its the lack of overt commerciallism and the approachable friendly drivers, F1 used to be like that pre Eccleston.

My point entirely, were they not button pushing monkeys dropped inside anycar cockpit and told to stay in the groove untill we tell you not to/or overtake team member, the sport might once again have point, untill then i'll stick with the 3000 lot F#ck it!

Abandon refuelling & limit tyre changes to punctures/repairs. By getting rid of all the pitstop strategies the spectator will be able to follow who's winning more easily and it will be more about driver ability/car.

Got it - introduce a 'pace car' in the form of a beige Morris Marina with one of it's rear doors in grey primer, driven by a bloke in a flat cap, to plod along at no more than 39mph in front of Michael Schumacher. Throw in roadworks, errant traffic cones, random appearences of White Van Man, Gatsos and those really annoying 'metre square' speed bumps. Pit stops should consist of a bloke in a grubby boiler suit and taped-up glasses saying "I could probably sort it for you by next Tuesday", and refuelling should be done via a pump that cuts out if you squeeze it too hard.
Any driver that 'survives' deserves to be a winner.
Seriously though, I reckon all manufacturers should have to build essentially the same chassis and engine, and the aerodynamics are up to them - come on, Formula 2/3/3000 races are more interesting and along similar lines. Also, what about allowing the teams the same development budget?

Further explanation needed..size of fuel tank should be determined by the calorific value of its contents so any fuel can be used, the art is to get to the end of the race first using only the specified amount of fuel, baseline would be the field mean of the amount of race fuel currently required to finish the longest race factored against its calorific value.

Make them use WRC cars!! More exciting to watch and they seem to be a lot more evenly matched.
