World's Fastest Truck

Dodge Ram SRT-10 tops 154mph

The Dodge Ram SRT-10 has taken its place in the Guinness Book of World Records as the "World's Fastest Production Pickup Truck."

A standard production version of the pickup posted a two-lap, both-directions average speed of 154.587 mph over a "flying kilometer" on the 4.71-mile oval at the DaimlerChrysler Proving Grounds.  The record run by the Dodge Ram SRT-10 was certified by Guinness World Records and the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA).  The previous record was 147.54 mph, set last July by the Ford SVT F-150 Lightning, before the Dodge Ram SRT-10 went into production.

"When we set out to develop the Dodge Ram SRT-10, our mission was to create the ultimate performance truck ," said Dan Knott, Director, Street and Racing Technology.  "With 500 horsepower, sports car-like handling, world-class braking and race-inspired design appointments, we know we reached our goal.  Setting the Guinness record today simply confirms that, and solidifies the Ram SRT-10 as the ultimate - and fastest - performance pickup ."

According to Guinness World Records rules, the record speed had to be the average of two one-kilometer runs in opposite directions along the same track, made within an hour of one another.  The timing equipment had to be certified as accurate to within 1/1000th of a second, and supplied and operated by a qualified third party.  The speed of each run was timed by means of sensors at the start and finish of the measured kilometer, thus giving an average speed over the full distance.

"Hunting European sports cars" ? Yep, right up until the time said sports car approaches a bend in the road and one 3 ton truck disappears into the nearest hedge/building etc backwards, suspended as it is on ancient leaf spring suspension.

I honestly wonder what the point is in a pickup that out-drags sports cars. All very powerful and impressive for sure, but surely they could stick all that technology in something more deserving, like a new version of the Charger, or something.

It's like Jaguar developing a massive V12, then putting it in a minibus

Pointless.

Don't know...It has a 0.92 G skidpad and 70 MPH slalom...better than an M3.

I agree - it's delightfully bonkers. The world needs such pointless lunacy.

It may be stupid, thirsty and, to some, ugly, but it is undeniably interesting, and as long as major car companies are produncing mad stuff like this, the future for petrolheads is bright...

Being from the US, i feel the need to defend this beast:
first, Americans love their trucks. They are big, loud, and over the top, and we just love stuff like that
Second, In America, there are lots of straigth roads, and not too many turns, so hunting sportscars usually implies a drag race. ALso, fromt he reviews that I've read, it handles fairly well
Finally, Americans have this fascination with stuffing the biggest engine into the car as possible. It may not make the most sense to do something like this, but its a hell of a lot of fun.
Well, thats alll I got to say

Here, here... We Americans love our trucks. That is why the Ford F-150 has been the best selling vehicle for over a decade (maybe 2). It outsells the nearest car by about a 2.5 to 1 ratio.

As far as sport car hunting, I've already posted. And try to haul something in a BM'R (or tow something).

We don't want no pansie-a$$ed 4 bangers in a tiny body. We want substance.

Well guys i like the truck is really good and excellent peformer. In America you will see more SUV's and Trucks than cars and vans.Simply because is practical for any use of towing or cargo we are not that concern about mpg's that much. I know I know that in Europe the concern for economy is big, because of the high prices in the gas but over here(Atlanta Georgia) where the gas still at $1.43-1.50 a Gallon still cheap compared to the one in UK. This is why most of the Uk sportscars are lightweigth and with 115-200 hp can be really fast and still got great mileage.
But the reason for this truck is built is mostly like a sleeper; stop in the red and then some fresh meat with a 350ZX or any other sports car thinking that they will beat this big tonka truck, and that is the fun of seeing them in the rear view while passing them.
