Is £20 + vat per disc reasonable?

Any recommendations for West London?

£20 is good for 1 off, if you are having a pair, or even all four done knock them down a bit for cashyes

once set up its a piece of cake.

New disc spec 23mm
Skimmed discs returned 21.2mm and 21.3mm
Of course I should have checked the width before skimming, oh well
Haven't found the min width spec on the disc yet, but sounds pretty borderline

No, I can't imagine there is much meat left on them at all!

you`ve only lost .8 to .9mm from each face, so you should be ok for a while, use them with new pads and look out for another set in 12 months time?

I think you're right Clive, apparently 2mm wear is the usual limit, so I probably have a bit of leeway.

Last year I put bog standard Mintex on the rears at the same time that I put EBC Yellows on the front. Fronts are fine, rears are gone - I would never have expected that.

Mintex pads are not the best for road use, they were fitted when i had my discs skimmed, they warped the front discs so i fitted new discs with EBC red-stuff and i haven`t had a problem with the fronts since. However i still have Mintex at the rear,i can`t stop them squealing so i am going to change them to red-stuff too.

120 for the front pair and 140 for the rears. All done whilst the discs still on the car. More than you guys are paying but not sure yours are on or off the car.

A new front pair from Clever Trevor cost me £200 + vat, so I'm not sure that skim represents good value.

I've yet to find a source of reasonably priced rears though.

It would cost a whole lot more than that for mine frown .

If I had to replace my fronts they would have to be Tuscan S.

Any idea what happened to the group buy thing on rears? I am sure lots of us are now needing some and not wanting to pay 500 sheets!

So you skim it down to minimum thickness and it will last how long with no further wear possible or your then below recommended thickness, i agree with Mr C its a freaking quick car you don't want discs going bang at mega leptons fit NEW ones pls.

To be fair, did the OP know they were going to be minimum thickness when finished? I dont think so, as he implies half way down the thread, or he said himself he wouldnt have bothered.

But i disagree with some of the sentiments though - a brake disk is a wear item, if its serviceable and has wear life left, why wouldnt you look at getting it cleaned up? For me, i had some localised pitting / corrosion from not using the car enough....whats the point in binning them?? You may as well throw money in the bin...and im not a fan of that...
