I have a 1996 4.2 cerbera and I want to replace all 4 discs, wheres the best place to get them without paying the extortionate prices some places are charging? are they Granada Scorpio discs? thanks for any advice as I'm on a budget

Fronts are shared by several late TVRs, although I'm not sure whether that is true for the 4.2 as well

Rears are Cerb specific, hence the silly prices

I would suggest getting the rears skimmed, and hoping they come back somewhere near min spec

I have run mine like that, on track, for several years

I have also had my fronts skimmed after making the mistake of using the car in the winter and not rinsing off all the road salt, big mistake

How often do you actually change discs?

Break that cost down over the number of years of service and the cost even at £160 a rear disk is peanuts.

It’s mind boggling people want to skimp on one of the most critical parts of the car.

after spending 4k on the engine in December I'm looking for a cheaper option as I got quoted £2000 to supply and fit discs and pads!

They must have been on their crack bong when they quoted you. Did they give you a break down of costs.

Get a basic set of hex keys and sockets and swap them yourself. It really is simple.

I only got two years out of a new pair of fronts, because they were drilled and started cracking

I could actually hear the cracks developing as the car cooled down when I was at Donnington

I don't even get to use the car that often...

Were they Ap disks? And you do track days don’t you. so not really surprising.

So in parts cost what is that. Pair of front disks... 200 quid a year over 2 years. To be honest that’s peanuts when your looking a price vs performance.

Have a word with Brummie - see if he still has sets of disks. The disks for the early cerberas are a different size, check the size on your car before you buy. They are available from TVR parts if needed.

However, fit CL brake pads - the best improvement for braking you'll ever make - available via Brummie

4K on an engine - pah biggrin

Just changed the fronts on mine for the 330x28 AP grooved discs, about £650 the pair inc bolts, they really do not take long to fit. The last set lasted about 6 years, I then swapped them for a set from Brummie, good for the price but not as hard wearing as the ones from AP.

Also rarely AP have them in stock at the moment so you don't have the standard 6 month wait.

For a 96 Cerb, you'll probably have the four bolt calipers which will restrict how big you can go. So if your limited anyway, just stick the TVR Parts discs on @ £95 each (+vat).

Mine are 18 months old now and still in reasonable nick.

do check the size first - front ones may not fit. early front 4.2 had smaller disks and calipers

Good shout the 4.5 disks are quite a bit bigger than the 4.2 disks.

Early ones are 291 mm as are early Tuscan discs, all the rest of the AJP/S6 engined cars have 304 x 28 mm discs except Cerbera 4.5, Tuscan Red Rose/S, Sagaris and T-car Red Rose versions which have 322 x 30 mm.

You can easily upgrade to the more common 304 mm front discs on the early calipers, TVR Parts and probably Powers, Racetech, Fortuna (Paul Chance) too have the necessary spacers with 152 mm bolt spacing.

In your case I would go for plain or grooved discs rather than perforated ones smile

Two grand for discs, pads and fitting is plain daft silly
