Evening all, I’ve read a few posts about installing star washers when assembling the clutch. Mines an early AP clutch but I don’t recall any being fitted. Any ideas / advice would be appreciated, ta, Ian

I do advise replacing them

'Starlock push on fasteners locking washers 5mm' pack of ten on eBay will be £2 (inc p&p)

Absolutely a must. My clutch would not disengage without them. They hold the intermediate pressure plate back from the flywheel. Lots of drag without them.

Looking at the pics you shared and comparing against my clutch I can see now that the washers are fitted. I’ve spotted though that the posts don’t seem to be fully tightened against the disc. I.e the hex part of the post isn’t fully seated. Does this seem right? Ta

I've not had to use threadlock, but if the posts are lose then it would be worth using some when seating them properly

So as per notaping’s picture, you’d expect the hex part of the post to be tight against the disc?

It would have been quite awkward to compress the clutch pack if they had been that way round

Therefore it's quite likely they were not that way round when the clutch pack was reassembled

Difficult to assemble, but thereafter oh so easy to take apart.... hehe
Paul (et al), when you've changed your clutch, do you set any particular clearance on these clips or do they find their own position upon first use?

They find their own position

It is worth cleaning up the posts though so they are as smooth as possible

Ideally replace them if they are badly scored

BUT
As I said, I've had no further probs (with the Clutch) rolleyes

Apologies for my original reply - the starlock washer is the right way up - but its been damaged from disassembling the clutch

Far more importantly, the spring is broken and part of it is missing!

It must have been very late in the day when I replied originally
