Afternoon all. I'm looking for some guidance on how to change the wiper park switch. There's a link on the Cerbera "how to guides" page on here, but the link takes me to some holding page and nothing of use. Can anyone point me in the direction of a useful how-to, or provide some guidance?

Thanks

Adrian Venn over on the Chimera forum is the TVR windscreen motor expert (he repairs them too) and if you look for some of his posts in that forum there should be lots of info to help

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Full instructions for fitting and sourcing here too thumbup

When I refitted my wiper motor (very nicely refurbished by Adrian) I removed the expansion tank and drained the coolant out using a hand pump, but I'm not sure if you need to do the same for the wiper park switch

It's a bit tight in that corner but if you take your time it's a fairly easy job

(Edited to say...If it is the early Cerbera). It is as easy to simply remove the two Allen head countersunk M6 bolts and remove the whole assembly from the bulkhead so as to lift and then pry the leading edge up so as to raise it above the tang. These days, on my rebuilds, just for the Cerbera's (as I have the park switches made for me) I add a TVS diode to protect the controller.

I took the panel off which surrounds the wipers and the bulkhead to get a better look and it is very tight in that corner! Not sure how you get the switch out without removing the expansion tank, but I'll give it a go when the new switch arrives this week.

You can also treat your car to a new expansion tank and bottom hose while you are doing it (*I did) - it's an Audi part with the corner cut off to fit smile

and I also rust proofed the whole bracket with rust paint at the same time thumbup

Is the expansion tank change a nice to have, or a recommended course of action?

I'd say it's a nice to do, rather than a recommended course of action.

Mine was old and yellow and looked like it could crack, but it was more a "future proof" than a "had to do" thumbup

Would be nice to refresh the engine bay a bit - probably the tatiest part of the car! If the expansion tank is coming off anyway to get at the wiper motor, then it makes sense to put a nice fresh one back on I guess!

Found a photo smile

Here's my expansion tank bracket which I treated with rust proofing and then resprayed with primer and base coat

You can see on the bottom 'lip' where it had started to bubble a little bit due to rust spots coming through

Zooming in on your photo, it looks like yours might be the same when you do remove the expansion tank and the paint is cracked and chipped on the battery side so it might be good to refurb that at the same time too

Yeah I’d spotted that too. Might be sensible to get it off and give it a refresh then!
