Indicator Cancellation Sensor
Discussion
I've been out playing in my car the last couple of days and I've noticed the RHS indicator doesn't self-cancel.
LHS is fine.
I've figured out what the indicator cancellation sensor PCB is and I've looked up the diagram and I now know how it works, I think.
My understanding is that the indicator obviously turns on by pushing the stalk but could dirt in the LED sensor cause it to "think" the wheel hasn't gone from and returned to the straight-ahead position?
Also is it safe to blow out these sensors with an air line? I assume it is.
I see the sensor itself is an RS component so if I have to replace it I shouldn't have too much trouble getting one (hopefully).
Have any of you had this happen and successfully done the fix?

I don't know the answer but I'm bloody interested in this. I just love the way TVR has taken a different approach to the minor controls when they could have just bought-in off-the-shelf items from Ford etc.
Good show.
Please post your solution when found, and good luck.
Good show.

I'm too lazy tonight to go back out and start checking things.
Tomorrow evening, however ........

Me too.........sometimes they will....and sometimes they won't

Ireland - AS it happens I have my old alloy 'thingy' in the house that houses the Indicator Mechanism. So here is aphoto of it.
If this was on the car the photo would have been taken with the steering columon shaft passing right through the Camera lens - you know what I man??
The white stick is where the 'Indicator stalk' screws in, the WHOLE alloy part that the white stick is pushed into moves up and down as you flick the stalk, pivoting on the shiny bolt head that you can see, The gold coloured box at the top is the micro switch for turning left (up) and the black one is the one for turning right (down), When you push the stalk up or down, the 'cam' on the alloy housing that the white stick is pushed into, other side pushes against a small coil spring - you can just see them - and also pushes in the silver strip spring that is on the underside of the micro switch.
This might help you try and figure out what could be wrong.
PS - Hope I havent over explained things and just confused you

Alan, thanks for the picture but that bit is the "on" bit and is working fine.
It is the "off" bit that I have the grief with, the bit further down the steering column where the two optics "look through" the cam-type disc.
I'll try to get the camera in and take a picture and post it tonight / tomorrow.
And Julian, it is actually centered but just won't turn off the RHS one.
I'll be working on it again tonight so I'll keep you all up to date as to how I get on.

If you check the manual on the CD there is a section that describes putting the indicators into setup mode and then turning the wheel so it can tell you when it would turn them off. (Electrical Information chapter in the file "Section P Q Electrical.pdf"
Never tried to do it myself just in case it stops them working

I'll have a look at that and see if it makes sense.
But I'll be trying the airline first I think just in case there is dust blocking the optics view

If anyone tries to sell you that CD then tell the Cerbera forum police.

The central housing is a moveable collar. loosen, and move left and right till you get cancellation on both sides.
Its likely to be a quick cheap adjustment fix.
Its likely to be a quick cheap adjustment fix.
I think I misread this earlier.
The mounting for the sensor is centered, but the slot on the cancelling disc on the steering column isn't.
It's one set of steering wheel mounting bolts out of line.
Obviously the previous owner had the steering wheel off and refitted it in the wrong position.
Fixing this, however, is more of a job than you'd first imagine.
The car has had it's wheel alighment done with the steering wheel secured straight-ahead by the previous owner, and also re-checked and re-set by me.
To correct the position of the cancelling disc will mean removing and refitting the steering wheel to the correct position and then having the wheel alignment done again to straignten the steering wheel.
Plus I blew out the dust from the sensors but it didn't solve the "not cancelling" probem.
For tonight I'll just put up with turning them off 'til I get a chance to try the reset and see from there.
To be continued .....................

Mine seems to be in the same boat as yours non cancelling wise...
Would you say that in your opinion the left indicator seems to cancel too easily as well?
Mine seems to and the right won't cancel...

The left cancels a bit erratically but this is purely down to the steering wheel being re-attached on the wrong bolts and the slot in the disc can open at the beams a bit too soon some times.
I'm going to take a picture of the disc and the slot in it and post it here to let everyone see what piece we're talking about.
Later ..............
I'm sure the canceling ring on the column, the piece with the slot in, is just a stiff fit on the column shaft. You can turn it with your hand whilst holding the steering wheel straight ahead to make the gap central.
Try it thats all I did with mine and it cured the same problem you're having, unless its not supposed to turn and thats why it had moved, although I did it 6 months ago and its been ok since.

The one in mine appears to be welded in place.
I'll upload a picture of it here shortly.
