Windscreen source?

I picked up a stone chip on the way back from my lad's prom a couple of weeks ago (thanks to a in a pickup truck) that instantly gave me a 12" crack. Insurance co's windscreen provider said "no problem" and booked me in for this Monday coming. Except now it turns out it is a problem, and they don't have a source. Motoclan say no screens of any kind available (what kind of primary provider are they then?).

Anyone got any good ideas on where I can get a screen for a late '98 4.5?

I was in Central TVR yesterday, they had a couple of Cerbera screens, not sure if they're for sale but worth a shout.

Can’t help with sourcing one but there have been various threads about windscreens and there are two slightly different sizes, something to be aware of - measure carefully. Good luck!

Took 9 weeks for them (National windscreens) to get one for my Cerbera in 2019. Tried to get a pattern one but couldn't.

I think Central tend to stock the later ones (slightly larger on Mk2) but worth a try.

Thanks, I didn't find any recent posts but note the difference in screen between older and newer cars. I'll give Central a call on Monday and see what they say. Lucky the MOT is new and the crack is off to one corner so hopefully won't spread further - perhaps it'll give me enough time to source a new one ....

If you've got a Dremel or some thing similar, use one of the diamond stone spherical bits to just kiss each end of the crack. That will ensure/much reduce the chance of the crack 'growing'. You can then get a repair kit from your motor factors to fill the area where you've ground out the external laminate of the screen and get some of the 'stuff' into the crack.
I had to do this 4/5 years ago when I picked up a stone on my Tuscan's 'screen. It was good for ~ 3 months before I managed to find a replacement screen.

Chatted to Motorclan today at TVR101 summer gathering. They have Griff, Chimeara and Tuscan windscreens. They have all the tooling now to make them and are in discussion with people to get Cerbera ones made, probably the later car style ones only.

Cheers, yeah I spoke to someone at Motoclan who knew the details a couple of weeks back and they said it would be early next year before they the new batch of 50 screens they're having made are available. The windscreen company claims to have sourced one from somewhere and are working on logistics to collect it and get it down here. They mentioned David Gerald in an earlier conversation, but that might not have been the source in the end.

I stumbled across this site a while ago whilst looking for a source of a new screen. Mine isn’t cracked but the edges have delaminated slightly.

Not sure if these are early or late screens.

They will be early screens at P4P. I was the one who supplied them with all the windows to take moulds from back in 2005!! Probably should have got a discount!

Hmmm, i might order a couple, one to fit, one as a contingency

They will always produce them, They dont keep stock that just make them fropm the moulds when ordered. Not sure i would want one on a road car though!

Distortion and scratching? I ve never seen a poly windscreen before, have them for side windows and rear in my escort bht the front screen is probably a different story eh?

They are great as a lightweight replacement on a race car. Even with all the special treatments the widscreen wipers will amrk the screen. We normally get about 10 wet races out of a screen. So about 5 hours ish? So one long wet motorway trip would leave marks on the screen im pretty sure. Is a Lexan screen road legal anyway? Have never thought about it.

Just to tie this off, Auto Windscreens for my insurers did manage to get hold of one and fitted it this morning without too much difficulty. Correct screen for my '98 with TVR logo, though it's got a green shade band that my old one didn't. They wouldn't confirm where exactly it came from, but did say it was the last one their source had...
