How Much More Can I Take
Discussion
Two days ago....neither windows would go up. Reset controller many times, alarm on, alarm off, doors opened, doors closed - had to leave windows open, alarm off overnight.
One day ago....got in car and my window now works, pax stuck 1" open. One hour down M1 later, stop at services, coffee, and pax window closed. Didn't touch it again. Get to destination door switch does not work. Open manually, get out & close door (big mistake). Door will not open from outside. Get in the secret way (difficult with no tools but did it eventually) my window motors down but not up - now 6" open. Door switch still not working. Try resetting, alarm on/off etc, etc and 20 min later, for no apparent reason, manage to close window from inside, close door, set alarm and go to work.
What on earth (could that be an appropriate word?) is going on because I am getting a little fed up with this?

I noticed something wrong when the passenger window wouldn't go up fully, thought its was the rubbers and drove off to let it get warmer, went to stop and try it again and realised that both electronic door releases had stopped working, so got to my destination (thankfully with a dozen TVRs and knowledgeable owners!) opened my door manually and shut it behind me automatically
At that point neither door or the boot would release. It has since been OK but I'm still worried the Gremlin might return...
This is exactly what I am talking about Rob. It played up about 6 weeks ago, out with the wife, she wound her window down and it would not go all the way back up. An hour later it was fine. It has happened on and off for about a year now but has always fixed itself and never been that inconvenient, until yesterday. Am thinking of ditching the electric windows and putting handles on, at least it would solve one problem!
It's probably worth taking the inside door panel off and checking all the connectors. However, both doors suggest something else.
Can you open up the door module (is that what it's called)? A few people have said that the connections on these modules burn out and end up rebuilding the connectors or soldering direct.

Good idea Andy. I have looked at the box but it has been sealed in a few places by melting the plastic a little. I will open it, carefully, and have a look inside although it was a new controller a year ago. Might be worth having another look at the door connections although I cleaned them all earlier this year. Aaaaarrrrgggghhhhh
I've got a fix for this - its called the 'Ash Electrics Fix'...
Pull out all the controllers from the boot including the alarm system - throw them away. Pull out all the wiring - throw them away.
Go to a Renault repair-garage - and ask them to wire in a full system with all the bits... and a Renault factory alarm system.
Done!
PS. This is not a joke! Will cost you around £1500 for the lot. The adventurous amongst you can pick up a top Cobra system and wire it in. But I prefer the Renault route. I'll be doing it at some point - it will be the last thing to do, to totally throw away TVR's shite Maplin amateur project black-boxes with velcro and shit wiring!

Flashheart, although not as bad, I did have a lot of problems with doors and windows on my Cerb soon after I got it. I did 3 things and the problem has not returned.
1)cleaned all the door connectors, sprayed WD40 and then wrapped and tied in small freezer bags.
2)garaged the car (previuosly it was under a cover). Covers seem to trap condensation.
3)looked for every area where seals had perished and resealed with silicon.
Not sure which one cured it but I think 2)had the biggest effect - although not much help if you don't have a garage. Hope it helps.

You're proposing replacing the wiring with that great oxymoron "French Electrics"?
Sounds bad I know - but the new Renault setups are well cheap and rock solid and will plug n play nicely... well it was recommended, as its been done to a few other exotics... and it works! A+!
I tell you what - when I get round to getting it done, I'll sell the plans to Joolz who can offer it as a blackbox upgrade so that no one has to know its a renault!

I like it. Sounds like a must have. The only thing is add some decent wiring/loom for the front headlights into the kit, please...I think I'm driving mostly from memory at night

I don't want the headlight upgrade as I prefer the look of the single headlights, but they really are awful.
I'd be interested if anybody has a solution.

Sorry for confusion: I wasn't referring to twin/tripple SMART roadster style lights, but the www.mod-wise.com brighter light upgrade with the Philips Vision bulbs. If I've understood the plot, this means using existing light loom for one side only, and putting a new link from the starter feed to the other side: more amps, less frazzled wiring, and subsequently more light.
Looks like a DIY kit, but I think I would get these fitted profesionally. Anyone had this done?
I thought fuse 7 caused lots of instrument snags as well but there is no harm in trying, thanks Simon. As for BigBazza, by 'resetting' I take it you mean pulling the 4 plugs out of the back of the door/window controller, having a cup of tea and then plugging them back in. If so I have tried this several times...to no avail.
