How many cerberas

Just wondering, with the amount of people who ask, "I like your car, what is it?". Does anyone know how many cerbs have been made?.

Its a number that floats around because of the time the media reported "2000 cars a year".... most were chims...

I recall seeing this at time the Cerb register was building momentum. The number, as confirmed by the previuos caller, was reckoned to be in region of 2000 but some were shipped overseas.

There is apparently no truth in rumour that the PW philopshy was that you could have any coloured Cerb you liked, so long as it was blue. It just happened that way

The number jumped a few times on their books... maybe it was oversea sales... but its still no where near 2000... I'm basing it on how many engines were made for production cerberas... and that figure is not 2000...

You could well be right. I also just checked the Cerb register and the members number 209, so a long way short of the 2K mark.

Being somewhat behind with the register, I have about 30 - 40 to add, but this
is a drop in the ocean.

I really do believe 1500 - 2000 is the mark unless TVR cooked the figures.

In time I do hope to have a more accurate figure and will resume work on the
register once I have this show project out of the way.

So you've not got rid of me just yet.

Very busy with my band and in one of those sliding door phases with the other company,
but hey it's a Volvo for me in snowy Sweden from next week, so you've got to laugh!

Looking forward to getting back out into TVR world sometime in the new year and meeting
up with everyone again!

Also think along these lines...
How many years has the cerb model been running...
When did sales pick up...
How many roll off the production line(s)... alongside all the other models they have been pushing, on a fortnightly basis... realistically speaking, a cerbera took longer to build...
How many have had more than 3 owners... I'm guessing over 70%!
The cerbera market has always been the used one - not new...
Unlike the chims - they were a steal!....
I dont think any of us can get the real number...
In another 2 years - I believe, using the rate at which they are ending up in the scrap yards (sadly) - the number on the road will come down further... its only a matter of time... the automotive cycle has decreased the lifespan of new cars considerably... and especially the way TVR have kept coming out with new models - if its in a mess and costs the earth to keep running, logic says - she goes in the bin... and this act will increase... the sheer fact that a 45-50k car can now be purchased for 10-14k after a few years is proof in itself... the number of griffs and chims will be around for a lot longer... you can be sure of that...
Its a very similar story to the poor old 3000GT-TT... a great car, but has had its shortcomings - and only the enthusiasts have kept them running for so long...
Well, I'm proud of owning a piece of history - and the less the number, the more unique ours become... thats what'll make it a real muscle classic...

Is a 5% attrition rate always quoted for cars, whether this would be higher (fast and easy to prang) or lower (loved by owners) for TVRs who knows, but if we assume a starting figure of 2000 from back in 1996 and follow through, the number left on the road starts look look quite bleak...

1996 - 2000
1997 - 1900
1998 - 1805
1999 - 1715
2000 - 1629
2001 - 1548
2002 - 1470
2003 - 1397
2004 - 1327
2005 - 1260
2006 - 1197

So ten years after production start we'd been down to just less than 60% of the original number of cars (would be 60% whatever the number built was), so Ted's figures of 600-800 would leave bewteen 360 and 480 on the roads - getting to be quite a rare beast

Are you talking in total, or just AJPs? There are plenty of S6 ones out there, too...

does anyone know how the Chassis numbers run? as this is unique to the Cerbera so a possible check.
Mines a 1998 car and the last 4 digits are 1262

Meaningless - even if they did make sense - there could be unexplainable BS in those numbers...
