Titanium exhaust system for Cerbera...

If it's good enough for an SR71A Blackbird.............
But what's this then, the first TVR Chamaeleon/Reflex coloured exhaust system?

Some clever chap who knows about Titanium said:
Titanium reacts with oxygen to form a clear oxide, TiO2. This clear oxides filters out light waves, producing brilliant colors. As the thickness of oxide varies, so will color. Oxides form naturally on titanium leaving the metal a gray color, but applied heat and or electrochemical treatment will increase the oxide thickness to produce a spectrum of color similar to a rainbow.

Nice!
Will go superbly with the chamaleon paint job of the car then... I wont even say how much the tubing costs
- but I might just do it - if I can save weight then its gotta be done.... So.. from each bank... 4-1 stainless steel headers with stainless steel decat pipes with special resonator internals and then titanium single piece pipes all the way catback..... sounds like a plan!
With a titanium exhaust, I'd expect the colour to end up looking something like the pic below. Wouldn't buy one for the longevity, as it'll be cheaper to replace a stainless one every X years. And as for weight, doubt a couple of kg matters with 1000BHP. Waste of money for those reasons, IMHO. Not sure what kind of reverberations you'd get... anyone know what the difference in natural resonant frequency would be between a 3.5" SS pipe & a Ti one of equivalent metal thickness?
Now, I might consider a magnesium exhaust. Not an alloy - just pure magnesium.
Fire the engine up, drive down the road, have bright white flames shooting out of the back for a minute or so. Pricy to replace it once per trip, but would look VERY cool.
I'm thinking of getting one made up... about 3.5" straight to the back, from the collectors...
Anyone here have any knowledge of how good they are compared to say stainless steel?
Longevity? Sound?....
And what grade Titanium will suffice? I'm thinking Grade 2....
Ash,
I would have thought that your guys should be
doing this for you( back pressures,
volumetric efficiantcy etc) ?? sorry if i'm
comming over stupid.

They are - but they want to use stainless steel - I want to use Titanium... its just a material choice thing... I'm trying to drop the weight down as much as I can... every 50kg I can skimm off, is an advantage... me thinks anyway... they want to move as much weight to the back as possible... but I want to make things lighter too... their technical prowess goes over my head, something to do with traction and all that... I guess a full tank will add enough wait for traction IMO... hehe...
haha - yeah - I WISH! but if money was no issue - I'd buy a McLaren F1 and take her through this project! hehe
and get Al Mellings to build a V16 for me!
That way she'd be 100% british... (dont want a foreign engine in my super!)
Wasn't the original AJP engine design Japanese?

Rumours again - no!
Al Mellings designed 2 engines for Honda F1... but the deal never went through. The AJPV8 was derived from one of the designs - quite a few things were changed - for the worse!... right from the horses mouth
Also the theories that the AJPV8 block is derived from a Judd block is pure bollocks again - Al will laugh at anyone who suggests such a thing... Judd are well known for their F1 block designs... Al just happened to make a block that was as strong - and back then when he pitched the engine - Judd was used as a comparison - its amazing how rumours just spread from poor representation or misinterpretation...

JSG - found you... nice sound... if it sounds that good on a little download movie... must sound awesome in person... pop over to my place next time you're down here - I wanna hear those things in person!

The one on that site ain't mine. That's still got its cats in... sounds positively tame!
There's a little clip of mine here: www.sleepy-fish.com/ph_vids/DeCat_and_CCC_cans.wmv
It really doesn't do it justice, tho - crappy camera mic, wouldn't take the engine past 3.5k as I was still running it in, etc. (And you don't get to see any flames shooting out
) Will happily come out to play at some point. Car's in for a respray for the next couple of weeks, though.
