Blinded by the lights
Discussion
Got the beast running like a dream now but on these long dark evenings it would be good to be able to see where I'm going when blasting down those country lanes. Full beam is ok but when cars are approaching and have to turn them off can't see a f**kin thing. Any tips? Do gas discharge head lights make a diff when not on full beam??
Cheers

Yes I have them and they are great. Although you do see a very clear line where the beam finishes in front of you. Better than any other car lights I've owned.
When using full beam it's like daylight. My wife's night blindness is helped so I have to think of other reasons for her not to drive my P & J.
Downside is if you have to replace a unit due to a stone hit it'll cost you. £265

The main beams are exceptional for a TVR, but I am comparing them to my old S3, which had appaling lights. IMO they are still not quite as good as a eurobox, but that possibly due to the low nature of the car.
BUT when main beam is let loose its like having an SAS infra-red headset on, the world in front of you is suddenly there and in a shade of blue - makes it very reassuring blasting through country lanes on your own at the middle of the night.

I'm one of the very few people singularly unimpressed with those gas discharge lights .. I can't see a bloody thing with them on .. I can see a lot more just with proper old style headlamps with decent bulbs and wiring .. must be something to do with the blue tint on the GD lamps but to my eyes they're useless ..

BTW Do you know what the difference is between GD and Xenon headlights?
Having just bought a BMW (sorry) to partner my cerb, on the days when the Cerb doesn't like the look of the outside weather.
I'm not sure how I ever coped with driving the Cerb. It has gas discharge and the headlights are pants. At 50 mph on country roads I was either driving on feely vision or clamping onto the back of the car in front like a trailer.
I was just about to buy night vision goggles and dispense with the need for headlights when I rediscovered real lights. Now I can sit back and watch the road lit up like the colours on a giant plasma TV.

Looking at his profile (previous posts) a 2001 M5 ! VERY nice !
(I've got a 2000 Black 728, and the lights on that are fantastic too)
And to keep this post "on topic" I've never found the lights on the Cerb a real problem.... Granted the performance of the car is better than the lights, but they are better than any other car that I've owned (apart from the 7 series) !
