Im wondering what the difference is between a Cerbera and a V8S regarding ground clearance.

The V8S and V6S dont compare (V8S is significantly better)

Can anyone comment, re: getting onto driveways. My drive is ok, if I turn onto it at an angle when coming off the camber into the gutter and onto the uprise of the pavement. Without a slight angle the tailpipes lightly graze the ground.

The easiest thing to do it probably get a local PH'er to pop round in their Cerb & see if they can make it onto the drive.

Got to be a few Cerbs near you in Sussex ?

Right then, who'se coming to Eastbourne for a brew

I was actually thinking about your drive this morning olly, with 3 up, was it really necessary to pile out of Jo's cerb to make it up your drive. You dont have any pics of your drive entrance per chance, do you?

Its awful not knowing whether a cerb would make it to the safety of the drive, one day. Bloody hope so or its moving time!

The Cerb is supposed to have better ground clearance than the T350 but I have no problems getting into my garage with the T350, I needed ramps with the Cerb. The problem was the matal plates under the cats, The studs would ground out. That was a problem long before the front splitter or the rear box ever grounded.

The road wasn't made up properly so with an extra inch or 2? of tarmac on the road, we would have made it on with no problems, but as the road was, then no, 3 up puts too much weight over the rear & the Cat protection plate would have probably caught.....

No pics on line, but I can post on later/tomorrow..... (I have moved house since, but they have just made the road up properly ! TYPICAL ! )

Nope, I cant do any mods to the drive or the road, unfortunately

What are the chances of finding someone who has owned both a V8S and a cerb anyway. Ramps would be too much for me, the cerb would be an every day driver.

If I found out the ride height of a cerb and V8S (anyone know?) would that answer my question - im guessing its more a matter of front splitter from the ground height, the difference betweent the two cars. And the longer wheel base on the cerb?

Typical Pics would be appreciated if only to fuel my fantasy of an successful ride height till I find out splitter heights

No problem.

The problem with the Cerb isn't the ground clearance as such, it's the long wheels base that makes drives/road humps such a problem (the middle grounds out, not the front/rear)

Can't comment on the V8S, but my previous Chim certainly had better clearance than the Cerb. Main problem was the common one of the the back box grounding when coming up the lane, and the same catching on the centre stopper for our electric gates. Having had the box taken off, and sports pipes fitted, I now don't have any trouble! Shame!

is the standard cerb suspension setup similar in ride height to the chim, re backbox grounding etc?

Cerb = Longer wheelbase

Not quite what you're looking for but I have had a V6 (S3) and a Cerbera and the Cerbera was better in terms of ride height.

I have a steep slope down to my garages and the S3 always used to scrape the centre section of the exhaust and it was fine on the Cerbera. I did turn the brackets around on the exhaust on the Cerbera as they were set up bolts facing down which caused a few problems to start with.

Admitedly the S3 doesnt clear the ground as well as the V8, but thanks for the comments. Come on Jools, tell me something I dont know (left the door wide open for you there mate )

hi.!

a lot of the lowered cerbs ground out going into my workshop .. they'll eventually wear their own clearance in the concrete so I'm not too bothered about it , lmao! .. the S doesn't ground at all depsite it being possibly one of the lowest riding V8Ss in the country ( I run it very low) .. as BCA says it's more the distance between the wheelbase on the Cerb that catches you out ..

V8S often goes where cerbs fear to tread .. however having said that I can't get the S over the speed bumps in Mixenden, Halifax going to see the Gf's horsie so always end up taking the Beemer, and there's parts of Sheffield the S just won't go aswell .. it literally grounds to a halt on those raised square speed bumps

At the other end of the scale (ride height wise) I don't have any trouble with speed bumps or grounding out anywhere, even with the front splitter.

Cerb owners may wish to note that the DeVere Hotel in Blackpool, where the Back Home is held has a number of speed humps leading up their drive which are fine and we cleared okay (our Cerb is not lowered).

The last three however are mini mountains (ridiculously high) and we painfully graunched over each one

Luckily and amazingly no damage done, but we were having to stand in line at reception and wait for a Jaguar owner to stop complaining about it before we could add our tuppence worth!

Last time we went to the Hotel for Back Home, the TVRcc had arranged for sand to be put down at each hump.
The next day after the complaints...sand arrived and was put down.

Just thought I'd mention it!

Bob,

Again the Cerbera is far better than my V6S and doesn't catch in any of the places I once caught that, but 2 years of TVR ownership has made me very careful, so its not really a like for like test, but I haven't caught the Cerbera on anything yet (mind you mine seems to ride higher than some)

However, I have spotted that some kerb heights can be a problem with the door, just one up the clearance between fibreglass was less than a centimetre, so with passengers it could well scape unless you unload them first...

Well im not ready to buy just yet, will have to see how business goes next year, but... Im not worried about roads, I'll face the same roads as you lot - Im just worried about the drive. Jool's comments worry me, I'd hate not to be able to get up the drive.

Sounds like the Cerb is move prone to grouding than a V8S for sure :confused?

For the record, the camber of the road dives down, reaches the bottom (gutter) and climbs back up to the pavement. THAT is the problem area. I prevent the tailpipes from grating by taking it at an angle and straightening up, rather than driving straight up.

If I do drive straight up, the pipes only just gently touch.

So, its not a hump im trying to go over, its a dip Im hoping to get across. Does that help determine whether or not the wheelbase issue is likely to be a problem, or not?
