Just scribbling this as a massive thanks to Paul, Mike and all the other guys at Austec. Picked up my 4.2 yesterday evening having had the decat and full ECU remap completed. It is a completely different car now

Every gear pulls incredibly smoothly and the low-rev torque has improved massively. The soft-throttle response means that i can now drive round at below 2500rpm and still have power!

Dont get me wrong, the car was good to start with - apparently the most powerful standard 4.2 Austec had ever tested. It is now the highest bhp of any 4.2 to hit the rollers and pulls like a dream all the way from low-revs. Couldnt get out of car due to grin getting stuck in door, so had to stay in it and drive round until about 1am last night!

Well worth the money, and would HIGHLY recommend to anybody before the queues get too long!

Cheers dudes

Fly power was 375 bhp, so gains arent massive. I can tstress enough though that the power gains are a total bonus. The real investment is in the smoothness of the torque curve and the delivery.

I was obviously nodding my head when Pal told me this beforehand, whilst thinking I hope I get a load more power too. However having had the "procedure" I get exactly what he meant now. Its a lot more pleasurable and effortless to drive, with none of the unexpected power 'blips' and 'dips' that all the other tivs I have driven (probably around 5 cerbs and 2 tuscans).

Do you know what I mean?

How much - ask them, different packages depending on whether you get new injectors, have the old ones cleaneed or just get the chip done. I had mine cleaned and I think including VAT it was about £1200 - very reasonable in my opinion.

Dropped the car off Tuesday morning and picked up Wednesday evening. They offered me a loan car, but the train from Gatwick goes straight into the City which is 2 mins from my office so worked out very nicely. Just left work and picked it up last night.

Think there is a waiting list of about 3-4 weeks, but I can only see it getting longer.

Come on rotty Im plugging you silly here, tell them how great my car is!

Ted, just do it man!

So, do Austec now claim to have fettled the most powerful 4.2 (Rich25s car) AND the most powerful 4.5 (mine), obviously non-Red Rose versions. I believe Tripps is booking in his RR soon and someone was talking about putting their SP6 in there, so they could end up with a clean sweep

WTG boys

FYI, I believe the remap with new injectors comes out around the £1500 mark

All we now need do is get all 4 cars together, get BAA to close down Runway 2 at Gatwick (which you can almost see from their garage) and let us all set off together (I'll fit a tow rope to the back of Tripps's car so he doesnt get too far away from me)

Mike/Paul, just recommeded you to a new Cerb owner in Brighton, remember that at my next service

63bhp losses from flywheel to wheels? I dont think so.

But 327 at the wheels on a 4.2 is SUPERB!

What were the torque readings, i remember doing some flowed inlets for Marc Payne's 4.2 car after it had it's rebuild and it recorded the highest torque figure of any car I'd ever tested, incl 4.5s (not red rose though obviously).

I'm yet to map a 4.2 but i'm very surprised at this point to see it made so much less than the 4.5s ..

Ted, not using the forum search huh?

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?f=6&h=&t=134520

Started at 350 at the fly, ended up 409.6
Torque ended up 430.5, but I had new injectors instead of getting the old ones cleaned.

Here are graphs that SXS kindly put up for me
www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?f=6&h=&t=135431

As has been said, the power increase was a bonus, but the new found driveability of the car, especially low revs/round town, has been a revelation.

Spend some of those heard earned PH Pennies.

Must be tax dedctable? For investigative journalism?

Popping down there tomorrow to have a chat about what is required

My main aim is to smooth out the power below 2000rpm, as I find the M25 crawl quite a pain when I have to do it and using the clutch to keep control isn't the most efficient way of doing things

Not going to bother with the injectors for now as with the car being less than three years old they'll hopefully be OK.
