Ive had this discussion many times on the S forum...

How much louder is a cerbera than a V8S (or a rover V8)

Im pre-cat, and sports pipes right now. 'Hope' to upgrade to a cerbera soonish, so...

1) How loud is a cerb with standard pipes and cats, compared to a Rover V8 which is precat with sports pipes. Anyone know?

2) How loud is a cerb with sports pipes and cats, compared to a RV8 pre/de cat with sports pipes

3) Just how loud is a cerb with cats, standard pipes but straight through, compared to the same RV8 with precat sports pipes

(please sir, one more question )

4) Just how much louder is a cerb with cats, with sports pipes vs a cerb with cats, and straight through pipes?

[pose]Hoping to buy a yellow cerb, Im only asking, worried the car wont get noticed on the roads [/excited]

Answers(IMO)

1. RV8 louder
2. RV8 shades it just!
3. Cerbie just shades it
4. This ones easy....Cerbie is loud. I have sports pipes and decatted, and all I can say is "awesome". Louder than all the RV8's Ive come across, and most Cerbies that have not 'decatted'.(and I still have the rear silencers that are std to the sports pipes!). Sounds like the AJP should sound, and I dont need to be yellow to be noticed!

What Satman said, the frenetic noise of the AJP V8 seems to always get it attention.

I've only got a sports exhuast on at the moment (and decat pipes in the boot!) and it can be heard above most cars at our meetings.

Trouble is, and I'm gonna get hammered for this one that the Cerb has a terrible V8 noise. My BMW V8 has a better noise. The cerb always sounds like a frenetic four, and doesn't sound happy until its going along at speed. At idle it just sounds very unhappy.

You cant argue though, the isn't a car out there which pops and bangs quite like a cerbie I wonder if I'll miss my RV8 when I get a cerb

I know; my cerb decatted and with sports pipes made a HUGE popping and banging noises - it was superb.

But i've also noticed the M5 popping on the overrun too. And if you've ever seen the size of an M5's exhaust you'll know how muffled that sound must be. Maybe that V8 sounds just as good with no cats and a Tubi! One day ...

I miss the lazy roar of the 500 but the AJP crackle more than compensates.

It's certainly not a traditional V8 grunt like the RV8s have, something different and animalist, especially as they rev so high.

Personnally I like both the V8s for different reasons
