I've been in the TVR scene for a few years now, on the 3rd one, and I think personally the last one, which is why the project went into action.

Let me explain a few of the horror stories, and a few of the better stories too.

Driving round a bend, a little too much throttle, and the car bounced into the other lane, oncoming juggernaugt air braked to a stop, missing me by inches, I missed going off the side into a 12 foot drop by inches... scared the shite out of me, and to this day, I will never put my foot down on a bend ever again!

Down the M25, around 70-80mph, in the 3rd lane, accelerator cable snapped - freaked the hell out of me - managed to indicate my way out onto the hard shoulder, everybody driving by giving the usual look "aha, its a tvr".

Down the M11, throttle pedal snapped - nearly spun her too at 75mph... someone in a chim double-backed to pull over on the hardshoulder and see if I was ok... thanks who ever it was, I attracted the attention of some tvr loving policecar... and he didnt leave me until the flatbed came...

In a BP petrol station, couldnt get back into car, couldnt roll her or anything, spent ages of taking abuse and giving it back to other drivers until a few kicks and punches woke her up and the door decided to open up for me.

In tescos, starter motor went, stuck in the car park for 3 hours, a whole crowd accumulated to see my tvr get pulled up onto a flatbed.... laughs, jokes, sarcasm, you name it, I could hear it...

Battery went dead, floated to a stop on the M1, opened her up, couldnt figure out was going on, checked the fuses, decided to rip a couple of trumpet pipes off to see what was going on underneath, as I expected, alternator belt ripped apart.

So much crap, these are just a few stories, I'm sured I've posted a shed load more on here, but it didnt stop me, even after an engine died on me, I still stayed in the scene (stupid or what!)...

On the plus side...
The TVR got me my first 4 bird orgie and subsequent group action too (of course, well before I got married!)...
TVR introduced me to a group of owners of high performance vehicles that are still today great mates.
TVR changed my lifestyle, not wasting my money on silly things anymore, like designer clothing etc., now it all just goes on the car...

Anyone interested in buying a tiv, make sure you got a good income, because otherwise its a pain rather than a pleasure to own... and sods law does exist!
And, buying one without a warranty is like walking butt naked to the nearest postbox... not a good idea!

Cheer up Ash mate! Over the years, as well as TVRs, I've had a 348, 205 Mi16, Sierra Cosworth, M3, Esprits, Elise, Noble, Boxsters and a Caterham that have all broken down/blown up/wouldn't start on me. (And I'm sure I forgot some?)

Having had Cerberas for so long, you should be an expert at the secret way at getting in, so have NO excuse for being locked out.

What can you get for similar money that has the performance/looks/noise/prescence etc?

I've had a Marcos Mantis on appraisal for a week when they wanted me to become a dealer.

It didn't breakdown, but it leaked petrol everywhere. Took it to the 'Ring - great car. Faults - some of the panel finish was not that great, and the interior was a bit kit car. IMO not as sexy looking or fast as a Cerb? Difficult to re-sell too. And I'm sure the reliability would be the same as a TVR.
