Please be careful when out this winter. In my wisdom I decided to take the Cerbera out for one last run before the worst of the winter just to see if all was working ok. The day was dry but very cold I warmed the car up for about 10miles or so decided to turn around and come home. Road looked a bit frosty so coming down the slip road to join the A69 thought to myself be careful so easy in first and second into third to join traffic eased on the power to get up to safe road speed about 60 or 70 to join traffic and it gave way! With my skill absolutely no chance of catching it went flying up the embankment car bouncing around through small shrubs etc finally came to a stop. Got out to have a look at the damage see pic in profile.
I must send many thanks to all the staff at Hexham Horseless Carriages especially Jill who sorted out recovery for me and coffee in my time of need.
The damage is front end radiator etc which comes to the grand total of around 11K to fix
The insurance company have been fantastic as well, it was touch and go weather they would write it off as its a 96 car. Granted I have spent a lot of money on it but that never seams to make any difference. They are going to repair it so hats off to them as well.
Which brings me to my question which I know a lot wont like but hear goes, Traction control? Can I have this fitted? Who do I talk too? How much would it cost?
It really did give me a shock if the car had went the other way then I would have been in the traffic could have been very nasty. Fortuantly no body was hurt just a bit stiff for a couple of days.
I do hope somebody has some info on the traction control.

I do let the rear end go two or three times a journey so hopefully I'll be ready when it tries to catch me unawares, but so far its been as stable as the BMW!!!

No I have Jools own spec dampers the ones between the Avos and Nitrons on price. Your right on the stock shocks the slide is very progressive and is very forgiving foot off opposite lock all comes back nicely.
The shocks are set to TVR specs for road use only (soft) and up till then the handling and ride has been fantastic. When it let go I was travelling in a straight line, really did shake me up a bit may give jools a quick ring.

Never really been impressed with traction control. Had it on my old BMW. It simply cut ignition to the engine when it noticed the wheels slipping. Nightmare in a car with high tourque.
Then my later cars had fuel/ignition and four wheel independant braking. That was much better, but on normal spirited driving it isolates you from the road and several times a journey you can see the panic light on the dashboard flashing wildly.
Certainly on a corner the car feels better with traction off and the tail squiring, than traction on, but not knowing which way the cars gonna go.
I think putting a cheap system on the Cerb would take quite some getting used to, and an expensive system quite some engineering.

Yes they are going to fix it
the price is high with the amount of labour needed and TVR parts prices. They are going to replace the entire front end. Lot of work wont see it for a couple of months.ceejay said:

I think Joo has been looking into traction contol, vaguely recall a conversation with him a few months ago about a tuscan with it fitted.

Thanks Ceejay just spoken to joo and yes its in development hopefully will be ready by the time mine comes from the body shop.
God knows how much it will cost!

i fitted racelogic to a cerbera .. nightmare
worked great once up and running, but it was a loooooooong road. in the end I gave up on the DOS software and drove to racelogic who set it up for me .. was a pita to do it myself. I hope it's user-friendly windows based nowadays.
Don't know if it's changed now, but on the cerbie I did we didn't specify launch control, therefore we only got the 6 injector cut option. the TC somehow modified the fuelling to the cut injectors, and on part throttle the ecu was trying to weaken the fuelling off to it's weak limits. Only by splicing the other two injectors into the nearest TC controlled injectors was the fuelling restored properly... but then of course you get the cycling of the injector cuts going from one injector to cutting two injectors for the ones spliced together.
Like I say it worked great once it was all up and running, but going for an ECU with it all in one unit is by far the easiest and most cost effective route since you get a power upgrade into the bargain.

Thanks for all your kind words. I have spoken to Joo and I think I will wait for an all in one unit rather than a add on like the race logic unit as I was going to have the ECU mapping done anyway.

Sorry to hear about your Cerbera. At the end of October I hit a deer that decided in its infinite wisdom to hop out in front of me. Did £11k of damage to my car too; new front end, bonnet, air box and all. I am not expecting my car back until the end of February. Still, mine needed a front end respray...

Not as much of a shock as it was for the guy who wasd in the van travelling in the opposite direction! The deer went through his windscreen and landed up in his passenger seat!
Mine's at Liphook Coachworks, who specialise in these sorts of things (plastic cars!!!!)
I hope your's gets back to you quicker than mine gets back to me.
