275 miles on a tank

Having wrung out every last drop last week in an attempt to make the S meet in Westerham from the meet in Beauleui I realised when the car started jerking around that I'd pushed it a little too far. Got out to find a petrol station, couldn't find one, asked and was told there was one a mile away, drove for a mile and a half before the car gave up completely and I had to enabled the dreaded hazard warnings (the petrol he'd told me about was still two miles away!).

At this point the fuel pump would not prime and everything seemed rather desolate. Thankfully a call to the AA and half an hour later I was off again, with thankfully no noticeable side-effects of running of dregs and vapour.

However, the guage at the time read just less than an 1/8 of a tank - I know I shouldn't have trusted it, especially knowing there is no reserve.

The AA man brought me a gallon (4.5 litres) and when I topped up to the brim I used 57.7 more litres, so ignoring the 2 miles getting to the petrol the tank took 62.2 litres, 2.8L short of the 65 quoted in the manual.

What really suprised me was how much fuel it had been drinking over the 275 mile trip, 62.2L over 275 miles is 4.42 litres per mile, or in old money, 19.9 MPG!

Not really worried as its a fun car, but I'd expected a little more, perhaps 23 MPG or something.

I usually fill up around 250 miles just to be certain but my gauge is pretty accurate. When it's been almost on zero it's taken about 58 ltrs.

Good to hear there's no ill effects though.

When I took a Cerbera from Northern Ireland across the ferry to Scotland I ended up doing 498 miles somehow, had a great time though but used two whole tanks of optimax and don't recall driving slowly as it was in the wee small hours.

I think yes some would hope for more, but it is after all the engine out of a Tuscan Racing car we are taking about - I think 250 is what you will get 300 if your lucky - but to be totally honest if you really worry about that side of it then you possibly have the wrong car.

They aren't cheap to run - but smiles per miles now thats where the runing costs matter.

I only thought mine was low compared to what I've heard, but since my wife's family wagon does 26 MPG for zero smiles per mile, the ecomony to grin factor of the Cerbera seems great value

Might even be slightly better after my Austec visit

Depends how you are driving I suppose, My 4.2 used to get from Exeter to Heathrow and back on 50 - 55 litres ~320 mile round trip. That would have been light throttle cruising. T350 is just about the same but as the petrol tank is so pitifully small I can't make it on a tankful.

Sometimes I have to fill her up after 190 miles. Max i've ever got from one tank is 260 miles.

When I had my Cerbie I though the MPG was pretty amazing for a engine of it's output. Put it this way my 3.0 V6 Shogun does 200 to a 60 l tank!!!

19 seems the average on ours, have seen 28mpg before on a long motorway run

This is interesting....Ive driven to Joospeed today which is 185miles door to door, with a full tank (car wouldnt take a drop more!). Stopped at a Shell garage just before Joospeed with tripometer showing 178 miles and car took 29 litres to get back to same full point...so my reckoning....

178 miles divided by 29 litres = 6.13 litres per mile and therefore 6.13 x (4.5L/gallon) = 27.59 miles per gallon! ...and I did the 178 miles in 2.5 hours...average speed 71.2 mph!

Frankly I don't regard anything more than 15 mpg as having fun! 10 mpg on a track day or <1 mpg making loud noises in traffic

However, I got 24 mpg taking my mum on a long run to our house, she's 87 and has the repeat voice chip fitted which says "that's fast enough, that's fast enough, that's fast enough, that's....."

Thems ludicrous figures!!!!

But then again i dont really do motorway miles.

Most ive had on a full motorway / a road jaunt was 210 miles (although i went to pick up a t350 with a friend so we had some fun!)

Other than that it is between 120-140 of late. Wonder if the remap would improve it...not bothered.but it would be a nice + side!!

I'm quite happy with the MPG, compared to anything with similar performance which likely do 10/12 MPG, its just the touring distance which dissapoints me a little - although I was quite aware it would be the case with the Cerbera before I bought it.

I'd rather do a £90 fill-up and be able to do 500/600 miles, but such is life
