Oil Change

Im used to having Austec look after my car, dont want to mission up there and spend money till my warrantys expired, but want to change my oil (as it looks black, tired(?) etc)

How do I drain the oil out, is there a plug hole (complete with chain and red sign saying pull ye olde plug here) under the car? How does one go about getting good clean oil into the car, should I flush out with new oil and drain before filling up again etc? (V8 here) and how long does oil last, and what (sorry for so many questions) are the benefits of changing VS not changing the oil, rather than leaving it without freshning it up)?

I just want to take care of my Cerb, do the right thing etc, apologies for such noobie questions.

One more... once drained, how much oil does the cerbie take?

And finally, Ive decided to use 15-40. Takes a wee bit longer to warm up as I hear, but is of the best all round viscosity to use. Anyone (who has researched, rather than just bought "whatever") agree, in theory anyway?

Honestly, mate, I reckon you could dig yourself an early grave trying to do the very best for the motor. I spoke to Fernies some time ago about oil and, given how experienced they are at looking after TVRs, I was a bit surprised at how relaxed they were on the subject of which oil, and what grade, etc, etc.

I honestly think that sensible quality oil at about the right grade will do the job. Obviously, I was talking about topping up rather than replacing the whole damn lot, but unless you are going to rigorously change between seasons, style of driving and so on, just make sure you keep it at a decent level!

The experts will be on shortly to ensure that I am flamed in ot an early grave no doubt!

There are a couple of drain plugs in the sump (I think the sump is baffled in some way which means you need two....).

I use Millers CFS 10-60 as Mobil 1 15-40 was getting hard to find. www.millersoils.net/index2.html Seems to use the oil at about the same rateas Mobil, 1 litre every 750-1000 miles, some through burning, some through leaks.

Every 6000 miles is the oil change interval, don't forget the filter too! (same as some Land Rovers).

Capacity is about 5 litres I think.

check with DM to see if the oil was done in the pre sales service might even be shown on the documents they give you. If it was they usually use magnatec up there and as such you could top up. I dont think you will have done enough miles to worry about a complete change yet. Have you checked the oil level??

I check the oil level regularly. When I got my V8S, the oil was so clean (filter change and new oil) I could harly read the level. This stuff is very dirty and was definitely not changed at the time of the service.

its up a DM now why not ask them to do it should only take them a little while and then you know its done. Unless you fancy the job yourself

Decided to change the oil on my 1st Tiv, a 350i, many years ago. Literally skinned my knuckles and swore Id never do it again (and that was apparantly an easy engine to work on).

Rob, get DM to do it and just work an extra hour to pay for it mate

re: doing it myself Im not even sure where the sump is.

The rubber seal has gone on my windscreen they said they couldnt touch that either till next week. DM are extra busy with a 4-day week, so Im not even going to bother asking.
