AJP8 and 4.5 trouble list really need help !

HI all,

It has been a while since I am exploring the beast in my garage. I am experiencing a sum of misunderstandings with it may be you can help ?
In order of urgence :

1- Engine does not seem to be turning ok at low revs and jiggling so I took off the air boxes then noticed that on cylinder 2 right side there was fuel an air mix exiting of the engine instead of intaking. I changed the plug and checked for the spark : OK, I disconnected the injector and there no change in noise or revs....this one does not seem to work.
What can It be ?


2- Oily smoke : Oil coming out a pipe in the front of the engine an leaking in the right air box, makes smoke when leaking on the exhaust

3- Oily smoke coming into the car by hidden holes making me and my kids fell bad

4- I would like to (ex)change my wooddendash bord and airco for an aluminium one. They don't make it at Leven's so who make that ?

5- windscreen liquid tank : I need the plastic CAP !

6- Engine software check : how can i get it to make a pre diag of my car and order the right parts.

In answer to no. 1 possibly a duff injector or the loom / harness itself, try exchanging injector leads with the adjacent cylinder to see if it sparks into life.

no. 2 uumm just add a hose clip? to seal the pipe onto the spigot on the airbox?

No 3 might be the gearbox rear oil seal. If it is it will be leaking oil onto the exhausts and leaving a smoke cloud when you sit still with the engine running - the smoke will come into the car by the handbrake, If this is the fault it's important to get it fixed so as to avoid a fire...

2 and 3... replace the breather hose, mine was totally worn out, very soft and leaking oil onto the rad hose on that side.

You need to do a compression check on that cylinder. If fuel is being ejected out the inlet trumpet it worries me that a valve is not opening and, thus, not creating a vacuum to suck the mixture in. Is the engine making any mechanical noises, more than normal? When did this start happening? Under what circumstances?

No.4 Not sure if anyone else makes the aluminium dash for cerbs, but the previous owner of my car bought a sheet of ally checker plate, took out the old dash and used it as a template to cut out the ally dash. It looks excellent in place and he said it was a simple job, but not with my level of expertise it wouldnt be.

Have to agree with this. Forget all your other problems cos they is small potatoe when compared with the 'why is fuel comming out my inlet'

Go for valve problems.

Agree on both counts......for what its worth, I think you may have a cracked/broken valve spring.

My cerb is the only one I have seen and heard (except those files on the net) I found it sounds like a diesel at the front, but nice at the back. The fact is that when starting, the engine does not turn round at low revs, I will explore the valves solution and make it controled.


For the oily smokes could the good thing be to have a little tank to receive the oil and empty it sometimes ?

Not really as you are only curing the symptom and not the problem.

sorry - didnt read the detail previously.
When my engine went I had poor running, we found a lot of oil on a plug and then discovered that the heads were destroying themselves etc... (it still had high oil pressure on the gauge as someone had kindly decided to bodge it to give a false reading by stuffing a bit of broken spring in with a new oil pressure relief spring).
