Wing Mirror Door Button

The door opening button has stopped working on the passenger wing mirror, works from inside the car but not on the wing mirror button.
I presume the button on the wing mirror is just wired in parallel to the inside one? and that a connection has come loose some where.
I had parked it up outside my friends house the other day and some B***RD had twisted the mirror round!! , no damage, but must have disturbed one of the connections.
Could anyone tell me the best was to access the wiring on these please. I was thinking the top half of the wing mirror, just pulls off, but don't want to go forcing it incase it doesn't.

You need to, first of all take, the door panel off the inside of the door. This is held in place by a few countersunk screws around the edge. Once you have this off unplug the connectors that go to the internal door switch and speakers. You should now be able to completely remove the inside door panel. Follow the wiring down from the top of the door to a couple of connectors, these two wires will originate at the base of the door mirror. Stick a multimeter and see if you get continuity when you press the button on the door mirror, if you don’t then you will need to remove the door mirror to get to the wiring.

I have never removed the door mirror but looks simple enough. Push back the mirror, so its 90 degrees to its normal position. You should be able to see the tops of two more allen bolts. Undo these and the mirror should come away. Replace the wires and refit.

The button on the outside does not piggyback from the one on the inside. It runs through a separate circuit to enable you to disable the exterior buttons while driving through Southend on Sea,

I take it from this comment, that you want to be the only TVR at the 'cruise nite' then!

I'll have a look tomorrow afternoon, I think its something at the mirror end as that was the bit that had been disturbed when the problem arose.

Mark, my drivers door button stopped working a few months back, took off 6 of the 8 screws to take the door card out, the door card dropped an inch and the button started working again, so I screwed it all back together without further investigation. Sorted.

I know I should really have taken the whole thing off and fixed it properly, but there was some driving to be done so I didnt.

I had this same problem with my passenger door recently. Outside button stopped first, then week later inside button too. When I took door card off, it was obvious that the connectors were seriously corroded. I cut them off completely and crimped on new plugs, sorted.

When mine failed it was corrosion on the connectors of the outside button.

The mirror inside the wing mirror housing just pulls off and you can then get to the button. It'll be obvious if it needs replacing.

Took it apart today, and found it to be one of the connections on the outside button that had corroded.

Tried cleaning it up and soldering it but no luck (after over an hour I admitted defeat and gave up!)

Wish i'd just went and got a new switch in the first place!
