Taking on an Impreza

Had an impromptu race with a Mk1 Impreza on Monday. Pretty surprised that we were neck and neck up to 110 - only then did I begin to pull away gradually. Don't know if he had any trickery under the bonnet, but if not, does this mean I'm low on power as I thought I would have nailed him easily.
Thoughts ?

Thats not right!! I have nailed MK1 Imprezas in my Celica GT4. He could quite easily have had it fitted with steroids of some sort. Have you ever had yours on a RR for test? Well my GT4 has uprated turbo (higher boost), induction etc which was all done after I had beaten MK1 scoobies. It is quick but my Cerb feels much quicker, but could be all the wheel spin i'm not used to 
Edited to add: Oh and the GT4 did get a spanking from a yellow flame spitting cerb a year or two ago in Coventry. One of the reasons I have one now so thanks to who ever it was

My cerb came from that neck of the woods just under 20 months ago, so it could have been the previous owner?(bloody long shot at a claim to fame that one
)I had a similar experience last summer (scooby again) although I was able to pull away I was a little dissapointed.
Went in for a check up and found all the exhaust valves on one bank had closed right up. Once sorted ran the same peice of dual carriage way punctuated with 4 large roundabouts again (for scientific purposes) and was pulling an extra 30mph into the braking zones.
That particular scooby would have been toast in the rematch.
Having said all that some (not all) of the scooby and Evo pilots I see about just never give up in their efforts to prove a point and a lot of 'em like a power upgrade just as much as we do.

Had a couple of scooby experiences. One was toast and the other was a similar thing to you. Mind you, when I had a play with the quick one, it was December and on a wet road so I wasn't giving it the full beans but I was suprised at how quick it was.
One car that did screw around with mentally was one of those new Megane 225 Sports. Only ever come across two and on both occasions they tucked in behind me at say 70 units, I've then dropped it to 3rd and scuttled off and they have dropped back slowly but stayed within a reasonable distance all the way up to 150 units. Mines (only!) 338bhp at SRR so its no monster but never the less, a bloody megane!!!

in the dry my cebd can generaly burn most other cars however................ very embarassing story!!!!!! was driving round a roundabout in the pouring rain.......

im sure in this wet weather a good scooby could at least keep up under heavy acceleration.

Had a 996 Turbo attached to my rear bumper all the way up until 120, by 160 he had dropped off a good 30 meters.
From standstill had an EVO following me, kept with me in 2nd as i wheelspan, once in 3rd began saw him dropping back significantly-- once i hit 4th i dropped him like a bad habit until he became a blip on the horizon.

recently had a tussle with an M3 Convertable-- struggled to pull him back in 3rd, which wasnt right--so did some measurments of my own and have noticed i am down on power, rather significantly in my eyes over the past month. as have had a tussle with a hardtop M3 and toyed with that in relative ease in the past.
so i would say, its quite easy for the Cerb to go out of tune, and its not always easy to notice.
