GEARBOX OUT?

Hello all.
Can you take the gearbox out of the cerb, or do you have to take the engine out to get to the gearbox. Any info. much appreciated...

Don;t know the details, but you can remove the gearbox from underneath, while leaving engine in place. Someone did a step by step clutch replacement thread with pics and details - search for that

Nope gearbox comes out without touching the engine, or at least mine did . nice small gearbox too. Felt like a toy compared to the six speed manual BMW one I removed last year.

Do you actually want the gearbox out or are you replacing the clutch? if the later then you may not need to take the box out, the bell housing separates from the gearbox, so it might be a case of just disconnecting the prop shaft and withdrawing the gbox far enough to get the bell housing off,(then again I might be talking bollox)

Ha, it does come off with the engine in place, but you'll have a LOT of fun trying to squeeze it through those downpipes!!!

Ah yes, I remember Deano going on about this now, how many Cerb headers (downpipes) are cracked as a result of this, trying to force the bell housing out between them!
