looking for road test

Hi,
Among the 4.5, 4.2 and 4.0 I am quite kind on the 4.0 speed six model. Is the speed six a good choice for a second hand Cerbera?
Does any one know where to find a test drive of Cerbera 4.0 speed six?

I have read an article about Cerberas 1996-2005 on Yahoo cars, and let me really down for a car that I like so much, saying “Cerberas are so unreliable” “to buy a second hand Cerbera you must be very brave”; have the latest Cerbera improved the rebility or just the same than the earliest one? (even just a bit, I need to hear that buy a Cerbera is not silly)

I wouldnt believe ALL the horror stories, id say most are made up down the pub or hear say by people who have never owned one! Do a few searches on this site for more info.

have a look at the speed six engine threads. You wont find much about S6 cerberas on here.

I've a S6 Cerb. Drove it to Paris and back in April and will be 'doing' Germany over the World cup period. Like all TVR's if you keep it well mainatined they are as relaiable as any other high performace racing car.

that's not strictly true - there's a good few of us about and the majority of topics covered in here are not engine specific.

I've owned my S6 Cerb for 2 1/2 years now and it's been a brilliant experience overall. Yep, I've spent some cash (quite a lot in fact!) on suspension, wheels, servicing and most recently some modifications to the engine. The first and only time that she's let me down in all this time was on thurrsday evening when the clutch gave up but with 30k miles on the clock that was always going to happen at some point. The engine has some well documented issues but there's plenty on here who've also had to spend a few bob on their V8s too and there is now an increasing number of quality Indies who are offering S6 solutions. At the end of the day, received wisdom is that you need to budget £3k per year on average for running any Cerb - some years you'll be less, some more.

There's a bit of elitism when it comes to engine size/no of cylinders but the best advice is to try them all and try plenty if you're serious about buying one. My S6 may not appeal to some of the V8 purists (and that's perfectly OK ) but I think a number would be surprised by the performance and sound (courtesy of de-cat/sports exhaust - even BossCerbera was impressed ).

I Agree, the S6 seems to get a bad press but I have nothing but praise for mine. (I know, I know, tempting fate here) I was a bit dubious about buying a S6 but as long as you accept the fact that it might at some point go wrong and budget for it then go for it. It's not just the S6 that can go wrong, any car is capable of that.
The S6 when it's in the power band is brilliant and makes a lovely sound.

I agree with madeinengland, we both went out for a run at the weekend an both said how great the cars were, both are Speed Six's, my engine has gone 3 times (it is a early 2001) so i know how bad things can be but, boy the up's far out way the downs by more than enough, i do recomend a sports exhaust though, madeinengland will second that.
