Suspension Upgrade???
Discussion
when you are accelerating hard even on a dry surface the rear wheels seem to losse ground sometimes (rather then just spin)-- is this the "described" weakness of the suspension-- soft damping often reffered to?
If it is what dampers are the ones to go for---half of the bunch here seems to go for AVOS the rest for Nitrons?? Are there specific differences? Are the onses superior for fast road (NO track) use? Has anybody ever usewd yellow KONIs or KN components (we continentals believe in them)
How much does a suspension upgrade set you back?? Do you need to change springs as well?
Thanks for your advice guys....

You will need to change the springs, the shocks and the springs go together as a kit. You will get lots of different recomendations, on here, but I doubt if anyone will recomend the Yellow Konis.
Nitron, Protech, Gaz, Avo all have there followers - Choose one of those 4 and you wont go far wrong.

Don't know, I really don't understand your description. I suggest you ring up one or two well known suspension specialists and try to describe the problem and see what they recommend.
Nitrons are traditionally the one people go for.
More recently there have been some people going for Protech or Gaz.
AVOs have always been the chaper end of alts to original fitment.
Some go for Ohlins.
Once upon a time there were Redlines. Dont think they worked out in the end.
YOu ought to get your car over to the mainland and up to APM. He can sort Gaz for you (or Ohlins or Nitrons).

As I am heading down this route soon, I am led to believe the Gaz and Protechs are 'budget' units. Value for money but not necessarily the best. I am told that if you (I) can afford it, stretch to Nitrons or similar.
Most importantly though, regardless of which type of suspension you choose make sure that you have it fitted and then set-up correctly by someone who knows what they are doing. Recently there have been threads by owners on here who have purchased suspension kits but have not had them fitted correctly, this has resulted in their car's handling becoming dangerous to a point where driving it was a risk. Eventually they had the issues rectified, but had to visit a specialist who set the suspension up correctly.
Also ask yourself what you want from the suspension package, e.g.
A. Are you happy with the standard set up, but it has just become a little tired?
B. Would you like to upgrade to something that will give you improved cornering, stability and feel, but only want it for road use and maybe occasional track use?
C. Or do you want to become a Track Driving God and want to throw your car around a track, for maximum enjoyment and to feel the car's true handling capabilities?
Depending on the above you should consider the following packages:
A. Standard TVR replacement shocks and springs
B. Protechs, AVO's or GAZ
C. Nitrons, Ohlins, Intrax, or alternatively contact some of the specialist suppliers and see what bespoke set-up they can offer.
All of the above is in my personal opinion, but I can't stress enough the importance of getting it fitted and set-up correctly at a specialist.
Jules.

Thanks for the advice guys (especially for the 3 options Jules- happy to sort the pint)- no I at least know I want option two and I know I want a specialist (or do you think Graham @ Fernhurst is able to set it up - he has excellent knowledge of the cars but I do not think they do a lot of upgrading???)- so who else is close by???
Is the Setup usually included in the Fitting Price or do they charge extra??? How much would that set me back. How I wanted to describe my problem is that on an uneven surface (i.e. typical IOW A Road) even in the dry the wheels easily loose contact with the road (and this is not wheelspin, you have more the feeling when the car goes "in" the suspension under acceleration, when it the comes out it looses Grip and it takes long to regain it (in Germany whe would call that underdamping- I do not know how to translate that but it means to weak shock absorbers - not necessary worn out ones though...., it want be my ARB as i had that recently fixed and put new (Heath) droplinks on...
Last but not least if I go for the option Number 2- if I have to put new springs as well do I loose all the comfort- so far the Cerb feels extemely comfy (compared
to my TR6 - well it's got suspension)and as I am getting an old git I quite enjoy it...

This is what I found with the standard dampers. I guess they're just crap.

With better damper control you can actually run stiffer springs without sacrificing ride comfort.
